"Dynamite Kiss" An Eun-jin's tears tug at the heart.
SBS Wednesday-Thursday drama "Dynamite Kiss" (written by Ha Yoon-ah and Tae Kyung-min, directed by Kim Jae-hyun and Kim Hyun-woo, produced by Studio S, Samhwa Networks) features a single woman who took a fake job as a young mother to make a living. The reason she made this choice was for her family. Viewers who know her strong sense of responsibility and kind nature root for her to succeed in both work and love and to find happiness. It is the story of protagonist Go Da-rim, played by actress An Eun-jin, which further draws emotional empathy.
In episode 8 of "Dynamite Kiss," which aired on the 4th, Go Da-rim struggles to suppress and hide her feelings for Gong Ji-hyuk (Jang Ki-yong), who feels an irresistible attraction after a "catastrophic" kiss. No matter how difficult the situation, Go Da-rim is a bright, spirited ray of sunshine, but the pain of love weighing on her heart was overwhelming. She was so distraught that she sat down in the street and cried without caring about what people thought.
That day Go Da-rim heard news of Gong Ji-hyuk's engagement. Thinking the reason Gong Ji-hyuk had been cold the night she visited was because of the "engagement," Go Da-rim decided she would no longer be a burden to him. She resolved to treat Gong Ji-hyuk strictly as a coworker. Though she steadied herself in front of Gong Ji-hyuk, saying "be professional!", her trembling, racing heart was beyond her control.
The more she tried, the colder Gong Ji-hyuk treated Go Da-rim. Because of Gong Ji-hyuk, Go Da-rim nearly cried but held back. After a day more confusing than anyone else's, on her way home from work Go Da-rim suddenly remembered the time she and Gong Ji-hyuk had looked at each other and smiled. That alone brought tears welling to her eyes. Then, as she ran to catch the bus, the heel of Go Da-rim's shoe broke. She eventually fell and sat down on the ground.
To Go Da-rim, the broken heel must have felt like her inability to convey her feelings to the person she loves, like her reality in which endless trials follow despite enduring with strong responsibility. Eventually Go Da-rim broke down in tears. It was not a single tear hitting the ground; it was like the cry of a child. Through a slowly growing cry, An Eun-jin fully conveyed Go Da-rim's deepening sadness and pain. It was a moment when Go Da-rim's complex and sorrowful emotions, without even clearly understanding why she was crying, were fully transmitted.
The rom-com female lead sat on the street and cried. Still, viewers find her adorable and root for her love and happiness. This is thanks to the narrative of Go Da-rim that actress An Eun-jin carefully built, which provoked viewers' empathy. This is An Eun-jin's first full-scale romantic comedy, and she once again proved she is an irreplaceable actress as a rom-com female lead.
At the end of the episode, Gong Ji-hyuk finally learns that Go Da-rim is neither a young mother nor a married woman. This will bring a major change to the romance that had been mutual heartache until now. Will Go Da-rim and the many viewers who root for her be able to smile together? Expectations rise for the performance of rom-com heroine An Eun-jin, who evokes strong empathy.
SBS Wednesday-Thursday drama "Dynamite Kiss" airs every Wednesday and Thursday at 9 p.m.
