That day K.will and Hyun-young revealed a 20-year friendship and greeted each other, saying it had been a long time. K.will said he had heard about Hyun-young's impressive approach to raising her children and asked a question about the education expenses.
First, Hyun-young attracted attention by revealing for the first time about her parenting stress, saying, "I was embarrassed so I didn't tell anyone. Maybe because of parenting stress, or because my forgetfulness got worse, I lost both car keys within a month after the Chuseok holiday. So I haven't been able to drive since Chuseok."
K.will asked, "I heard you pay a lot of attention to your children's education. While attending an international school, the education costs reached hundreds of millions of won," and Hyun-young said, "For both of them, the education costs are in the hundreds of millions of won. I haven't bought anything for myself in several years. I bought these clothes a few years ago," adding, "Actually, I see it as teaching them the life skills to live in the world, so I want to support them as much as I can," explaining her educational philosophy.
To educate her eldest daughter Da-eun, Hyun-young transferred her from Cheongdam-dong to Hwacheon in Gangwon Province, and after noticing her eldest daughter's academic talent, she asked for her opinion and then sent her to an international school. Da-eun, who boasted outstanding grades there, was also active as a swimmer in Incheon and once won a medal that was reported in an article.
K.will asked, "Did your husband understand the expenditure on education?" because he was curious whether their views on education matched. Hyun-young said, "I started it without my husband knowing. If he knew he would say something. I use a separate bank account. We earn differently," adding, "We share the education costs. There are joint accounts and individual accounts. We use the joint account for tuition, and things like private academies are paid from individual accounts. I do what I can on my own," saying they only share tuition costs. K.will was surprised and asked, "Where on earth are you spending hundreds of millions of won?" and Hyun-young said, "Only the tuition alone is in the hundreds of millions of won."
Hyun-young said, "I ask other mothers with children at the same kindergarten for education information, or I ask people who work in education. After getting counseling and attending lectures, I gain information. Then I think this is how I should raise our children," saying she does not discriminate when it comes to information about her children's education.
Meanwhile, Hyun-young said she wants to be a mother who can wash away her daughter's worries at any time. Hyun-young said she wanted to make her daughter understand that she is the person who makes her feel most comfortable in this world and who would do anything for her. It's okay for her daughter to take her lightly to that extent. Rather, she can come to me, be warmed by me, and then go out into the world, she said, showing off her feelings as a mother who simply loves her daughter rather than focusing on grades or results, which impressed K.will.
