Behind-the-scenes footage of Kian84's "Extreme 84" filming was captured.
On the 3rd, the MBC entertainment program "Extreme 84" released behind-the-scenes footage of the ultra-difficult filming undertaken to faithfully capture the "extreme marathon." This program is not simply a record of Kian84's challenge; it is an ultra-real entertainment show completed by the production team themselves running alongside the scene.
The "Extreme 84" filming team avoided typical broadcast methods such as vehicle, motorcycle, and bicycle shooting to vividly capture the perspective of the "real runners" at the marathon site, and the cameramen themselves ran the entire 42.195km course to shoot so as not to disrupt the flow and concentration of the runners.
Some members of the camera team assigned to filming were former professional marathon runners. One of them was an elite runner-level cameraman with a record in the 2 hours 30 minutes range, faster than actor Kwon Hwa-woon, who caught up with the pace of Kian84 and the crew and perfectly captured dynamic running scenes.
In addition, all production staff and cast shared their locations in real time via GPS to manage movement routes. This was an essential system for safety and efficient filming at a marathon where thousands of runners start simultaneously.
The "Extreme 84" production team said, "It was most important that we did not interfere with the athletes' records during the filming process," and added, "Thanks to running together, we were able to fully capture Kian84's breathing, field of view, and moments of emotion."
"Extreme 84" airs every Sunday at 9:10 p.m.
