Actor Seo Yoo-jung commented on the TV CHOSUN variety show 'Taste of Wife'.
On Feb. 2, a video titled "Mr. Sunshine: becoming Hong-pa" was posted on Seo Yoo-jung's channel 'Yoojung and Joojung'.
In the video, Seo Yoo-jung turned on her laptop and, while looking for videos related to her, watched past videos related to 'Taste of Wife' and felt bitter. He said, "But this is upsetting too. Looking at the clips circulating on YouTube, they say, 'You liked each other so much, so why did you get divorced?' It's upsetting. It's not that I dislike it every day and it's not always good."
She continued, "I also decided to film because I wanted to see myself and have Song-yi's father see himself. Because I wanted to live well and wanted to maintain this relationship," she said, revealing the background for appearing on the show.
She went on to explain why she and her ex-husband could not show their honest selves at the time, saying, "I really asked them to film our detailed selves. Our honest selves. But the writer said this. Even back then, the sweet, lovey-dovey parts were the point. They said the honest things (like fighting) couldn't be shown. They kept saying we had to keep creating that image."
Seo Yoo-jung added, "Who gets married planning to divorce? No one does that. You want to live well, but others can't judge this. No one knows the depth of those details. 'Hey, you acted like everything was great and now look what you're doing' — in the end, I'm the one who gets criticized," she said.
Seo Yoo-jung had previously mentioned so-called 'show window couples' on that channel. She recalled, "It was so hard then. So I wanted to see ourselves directly. I wanted to look back at how I behave and how the other person behaves, to see ourselves as we are." But she expressed regret, saying, "These days shows like SBS' 'Same Bed, Different Dreams' show fights as they are, but back then we had to show only the well-lived parts."
Seo Yoo-jung said she had been living separately from her ex-husband since their daughter was only eight months old. She confessed about that time, "There were times when my husband came once every two weeks and times when he didn't come at all. We lived like that for another two years, but there was so much hatred that it was painful. It took a year to get out of that. The daughter needed her father, but the problems between me and my ex-husband were agonizing."
Now that she is better, Seo Yoo-jung defended her ex-husband as their daughter's father, saying, "He's someone who doesn't suit me, not a bad person." Still, she grew tearful, which added to the poignancy.
Seo Yoo-jung married a non-celebrity three years her senior in March 2017 and gave birth to a daughter in 2019. However, she divorced in Feb. 2023, six years after the marriage.
