Comedian Lee Kyung-sil's son and actor Son Bo-seung is facing allegations of engaging in profit-making activities while serving in the military, and the sales site for the egg brand Uaran, which was operated in his name, has also been closed.
According to a media outlet on the 3rd, Son Bo-seung closed the online mall 'Prestige', which he had been operating in his name, on the 26th of last month. Prestige was the official sales site for Lee Kyung-sil's egg brand Uaran.
Earlier, criticism arose that Uaran, sold by Lee Kyung-sil, was being sold at a higher price despite having egg shell number '4' than animal welfare fertile eggs labeled number 1. Egg shell numbers indicate the rearing environment. 1 indicates free-range rearing, 2 indicates floor rearing inside a barn, 3 indicates an enriched cage, and 4 indicates a conventional cage.
In response, Lee Kyung-sil directly posted on social media, I sincerely apologize for failing to consider consumers' feelings in our pride in producing high-quality eggs, because from a consumer standpoint what mattered was only what they looked at when choosing food.
She added, Generally it is true that 30 eggs of number 4 are expensive at 15,000 won, but Uaran's quality is far superior to any eggs sold on the market, and we have worked and researched to ensure value commensurate with the price and have also strived for consistent quality.
In this regard, since her son Son Bo-seung was listed as the representative of the sales site, there were also claims that he might be engaging in profit-making activities while serving in the military. Son Bo-seung enlisted in June and is serving as a full-time reservist.
Under the Military Service Act, a service member who engages in profit-making activities without permission from the Minister is subject to disciplinary action or punishment. In response, Lee Kyung-sil also said that because it has been an ongoing investment situation until now, no profit has yet been taken.
