A son of supermodel Cindy Crawford, Presley Gerber (26), who defined a generation, has worried fans by revealing serious mental health issues on his social media.
Presley recently posted a black-and-white video on Instagram saying "because there have been many misunderstandings, a clear explanation is necessary" and detailed his condition. He has said he has suffered from mental health issues such as depression since childhood.
In the video Presley, filmed in a sauna, said "honesty is best" and mentioned medications he is currently taking. He said he is taking buprenorphine 1 mg twice a day, which is used to treat pain and opioid addiction, and explained that benzodiazepine-class medications also "go up and down" depending on the situation.
He said "I have terrible nightmares every night and when panic attacks are severe I take additional medication," and voiced fears about drug dependence. He confessed, "If I stop taking the medication, something bad might happen," adding to the sadness.
Presley also complained about the difficulties of treatment. "I want a set prescription, but I've met as many as 15 psychiatrists so far. They all give medications in the manner of 'take as needed'," and he said, "I don't want that much autonomy. I need a clear direction."
He mentioned the "several forms of loss" he recently experienced as reasons for his current psychological state but did not explain them in detail. However, in May it became known that the family dog Widget crossed the rainbow bridge after 20 years, which prompted condolences from fans.
Presley said "I have many people I love, but right now I am keeping my distance" and that he is trying to create a new environment that helps him. He also said he is abstaining from alcohol, noting "my last drink was on my birthday, July 2."
He has posted mental health-related content every week under the name "Mental Health Monday," and this video is also part of that series.
Presley said, "If I speak honestly about what I'm going through, it will comfort people going through similar problems," and added, "I hope someone can help."
Presley sparked controversy in 2020 with a face tattoo that read 'MISUNDERSTOOD,' but he later said he removed the tattoo. He started getting tattoos at 15 and said he has mostly stopped now.
