Singer and broadcaster Kyuhyun confessed the bizarre misconduct of a manager he experienced while promoting with Super Junior, shocking viewers.
In episode 5 of the Netflix variety show Three Idiots in Kenya, released on the 2nd, Kyuhyun was shown exposing the misdeeds of a former manager.
That day Eun Ji-won opened the topic saying, "How much time do we have? This is perfect for the talk box, right? Don't you want to hear about this, this?" With permission granted, Kyuhyun began, "Shall we start with something light? Want to hear the tollgate manager story?" piquing curiosity.
He said, "When you pass places like Namsan Terminal there's that check to see if there are three or more people, right? But he tried to slip by and got caught. The manager was in here, a member was next to him—actually there were only the two of them. He tried to slip by. Then the employee said, 'Roll down your window. We'll check.' After saying 'yes' he briefly rolled the window down and then asked, 'Is it okay?' and rolled it up. But there was a stuffed bear in the back. Thinking they would let it pass by just seeing the shape, he briefly rolled it down and then rolled it up again and asked, 'Is it okay?' and tried to go, but the employee freaked out asking, 'Are you kidding me?'" recounting how the manager was exposed while trying to avoid the toll.
Not stopping there, Kyuhyun continued, "There was also a kleptomaniac manager. I didn't catch that kleptomaniac manager; another member did. I witnessed it," he said.
Kyuhyun revealed, "When you open the shoe cabinet door there's a small storeroom, and when Yesung just came into the dorm the manager suddenly startled and said, 'Oh, Yesung, you're here?' That's strange. Suddenly acting like that. I asked, 'What were you doing there?' because he's perceptive. He replied, 'Nothing,' and stuff like that. It's odd. So I said, 'Hey, come out here,' and there was a box. In the box were all the items our members had lost over time. He had hidden them there," delivering a shocking revelation.
Kyuhyun reenacted the scene, saying, "I called Lee Teuk and asked, 'What are you doing?' since he's the leader. Lee Teuk lives on another floor. The manager begged Yesung to keep it secret, kneeling. But when Lee Teuk came in, it looked like he wasn't kneeling." He added, "That person eventually got fired. What gave me goosebumps was that he joined as a manager for another singer. That was really chilling."
The strange managers Kyuhyun encountered didn't end there. Kyuhyun recalled, "I even remember where. At the Kondaegyo intersection he made an illegal U-turn where you shouldn't. A hidden police car lit its siren and followed. That guy suddenly floored it. He had me in the car. I asked, 'What are you doing?' and his eyes had rolled. He said, 'Kyuhyun, my license is already suspended. If they catch me, it's bad.' I was so scared I couldn't speak. I grabbed the handle, but the front car was blocking the way and he started driving the wrong way. I said, 'We really can't go the wrong way...' but he said, 'We must,' and kept going. He didn't even look. I thought, 'What should we do?' I couldn't speak; his eyes had rolled," recalling the terrifying moment.
He said, "There was a motorcycle in front. Because it was moving slowly, the driver honked and shouted, 'Move! Get out!' and cursed. The biker, hearing the siren behind, realized he was fleeing and deliberately slowed down. When you try to drive the wrong way it actually moves you forward instead. That blocked it. Eventually we stopped because there was nowhere to go. Then he said, 'Kyuhyun, my license is suspended—could you please switch seats just this once?' I said, 'If I do that I'll have to take responsibility for driving the wrong way, and I can't do that.'" he said, revealing the manager even tried to shift blame.
Kyuhyun said, "From the side the police were banging and it was chaotic. Our car's tint was dark so they couldn't see inside. When I refused to switch seats he said, 'Kyuhyun, if I'm arrested who will be responsible for you?' I said, 'What do you mean? I'll handle my own affairs,' and told him to open the door. He said, 'I have to take responsibility for you, what do I do?' The police shouted, 'Open it!' so we opened it. He was dragged away to the very end. The manager yelled, 'Kyuhyun, what will you do if I go—Kyuhyun!!' as he was taken away. Sounds unbelievable, right? There's not a bit of exaggeration. He was really dragged off yelling, 'Kyuhyun!!'" which drew laughter.
Hearing this, Eun Ji-won said, "'Kyuhyun, please switch' is so funny," expressing disbelief, and Lee Soo-keun clicked his tongue, saying, "And the fact he worked as a manager despite having a suspended license is unreal." Eun Ji-won also expressed shock, saying, "What must he have felt driving without a license all this time... he must have been heartsick."
