'K-pop Demon Hunters' ripped it up and came out!
The group BABYMONSTER became the real-life Huntress and took over the 2025 MAMA. With astonishing high notes and solid vocal power, critics said they broke through the animation and proved BABYMONSTER's presence.
BABYMONSTER members Parita, Ahyeon and Rora transformed into Huntress, the protagonist of the Netflix animated film 'K-pop Demon Hunters,' at the '2025 MAMA Awards' held at Hong Kong's Kai Tak Stadium on the 29th of last month. The ceremony was a meaningful stage as director Maggie Kang of 'K-pop Demon Hunters,' along with the production team and officials, also attended.
BABYMONSTER members completed an overwhelming live performance that day without flashy choreography or stage props. The stage, which began with 'What It Sounds Like,' gave the audience chills from the start. They reached a climax with Huntress's signature hit 'Golden.'
Despite the songs' demand for high-level vocal technique, the three delivered unwavering live performances that amazed listeners, revealing their qualities as 'live powerhouses' with explosive high notes. Without flashy performances, they dominated the stage solely with their singing, proving BABYMONSTER's true value.
The reason Parita, Ahyeon and Rora's 'Golden' stage was even more remarkable was that they performed it live in the original key. 'Golden' uses a vocal range that even the original artists found difficult to perform, and the producers expected it would be hard to find singers who could perform the original live.
The original creator who worked on 'Golden' and sang the role of Rumi, Lee Jae, also explained, "This song itself is not a song for a singer; it's for an animation and a character. We had to intentionally include high notes that rise. We did it intentionally to express Rumi's desperation."
Nevertheless, Parita, Ahyeon and Rora boldly challenged a live one-key performance to fully convey the narrative and message of hope contained in 'Golden.' In the end, they flawlessly delivered a stage of 'Golden' that even the original artist felt pressured by, providing an exhilarating thrill. Their efforts to maximize immersion by recreating the original through hair and makeup for high completeness also stood out. True to a skilled girl group, BABYMONSTER created the most intense lingering stage with a perfect live performance instead of drawing attention with flashy choreography.
Parita, Ahyeon and Rora's 'Golden' stage became the most talked-about performance at the MAMA. After the awards show, their stage ranked first and second in views among the '2025 MAMA' videos posted on Mnet's official YouTube channel, recording more than 12.55 million views.
Moreover, Parita, Ahyeon and Rora's performance continues to be talked about across YouTube channels, social media, online communities and short-form platforms. It was a moment when, by ripping through 'K-pop Demon Hunters,' they once again proved BABYMONSTER's presence to the world.
