Singer Nam Tae-hyun will stand trial on charges of drunk driving.
On the 1st, according to the legal community, Judge Heo Jun-seo, director general of Criminal Division 11 at the Seoul Western District Court, will hold the first court hearing on the 11th for Nam Jae-hyun, who faces charges including violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving).
On April 27, Nam Tae-hyun is accused of hitting the central divider while attempting to pass the car ahead near Dongjak-daero toward Ilsan on Gangbyeonbuk-ro. There were no casualties, and at the time Nam Tae-hyun's blood alcohol concentration was reported to have been at or above 0.08%, the level for license revocation.
The problem is that Nam Tae-hyun is currently serving a suspended sentence for drug use. He was indicted on charges of taking methamphetamine together at the home of Seo Min-jae in Yongsan District, Seoul, in August 2022 and of taking methamphetamine alone overseas in December of the same year. The court later sentenced Nam Tae-hyun in January last year to one year in prison with a two-year suspended sentence.
Because of this, Nam Tae-hyun's planned comeback in May was also scrapped. Nam Tae-hyun was scheduled to perform at the music festival "K-pop week in Hongdae," interacting with fans and promising a stage in which he would reflect on his past and pledge to lead a better life going forward, but that was abruptly canceled because of the drunk driving.
This is the second time Nam Tae-hyun has been accused of drunk driving. He was accused of driving under the influence around 3:30 a.m. in March 2023 in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam District, Seoul. According to the police, after drinking with acquaintances he called a designated driver but, while waiting, moved his vehicle about 5 meters to repark it because it was blocking the acquaintances' car.
In the process, while opening the door of the parked car he hit a passing taxi, damaging the taxi's right side mirror, and reached a settlement. However, afterward Nam Tae-hyun drove the vehicle himself, and a breathalyzer test showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.114%, exceeding the license revocation level at the time of measurement. Because of this, Nam Tae-hyun also received a summary fine of 6 million won.
