G-Dragon's live-performance controversy flared up again. This time G-Dragon himself eventually expressed his feelings.
On the 29th, at Hong Kong's Kai Tak Stadium, Mnet's 2025 MAMA Awards took place and G-Dragon's performance was released.
Starting with this year's single "DRAMA," G-Dragon performed his solo debut song "Heartbreaker" and the hit "Untitled." The problem was that G-Dragon's voice was barely audible.
Apart from the pre-recorded AR (instrumental and vocals recorded on the track), G-Dragon was unable to perform much of the parts, and in some sections he danced while holding the microphone, effectively hardly singing at all.
The problem is that this is not the first time G-Dragon's live singing has been controversial. When he performed at the year-end SBS Gayo Daejeon last year, despite returning to the stage after eight years, his throat-scratching vocal style made the lyrics hard to discern, and off-key ad-libs and lagging rhythms drew mixed reactions from viewers.
At his solo concert held in Goyang in March this year, his unbelievable live ability and jittery pitch sparked controversy. Aside from the 74-minute tardiness incident, some sections were not sung at all and were replaced by humming.
Eight months later, the year-end stage again ignited live-performance controversy, and in the process G-Dragon himself expressed his feelings.
After the MAMA Awards ended, Mnet uploaded a reel showing G-Dragon's stage on social media, and G-Dragon expressed disappointment by reacting with the "boom down" and "boom tta" emoticons, along with "…" to show his regret.
Meanwhile, G-Dragon decided to donate HK$1 million (about 188.74 million won) to the Support Fund for Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po to help with recovery at the Hong Kong apartment fire site and to support the psychological healing of affected Hong Kong residents.
