In Hong Kong, where the worst disaster occurred with 83 people dead in an apartment complex fire, the pop music awards show "2025 MAMA Awards" will be broadcast live as scheduled for two days starting on the 28th. However, considering the local mourning atmosphere, events such as the red carpet have been canceled.
CJ ENM, the event organizer, said it will arrange a moment of remembrance to share grief in line with the mood of mourning in Hong Kong and will donate to support the victims.
It also noted that, rather than flashy production, it is preparing with care so the overall stage design and proceedings deliver comfort and hope.
Accordingly, CJ ENM said, "The 'MAMA Awards' red carpet has been canceled," while also noting, "The main awards ceremony will proceed as a live broadcast as scheduled without changes."
In addition, some special effects and stages are expected to be adjusted to match the mourning atmosphere for the disaster.
The "MAMA Awards" will be held from the 28th to the 29th at 7:30 p.m. Korea time at Kai Tak Stadium, a large venue in Hong Kong.
The event's lineup includes many K-pop top stars such as Alphadriveone, BABYMONSTER, ENHYPEN, Hearts2Hearts, TWS, Stray Kids, ZEROBASEONE, and G-Dragon.
According to the South China Morning Post (SCMP), AFP, and others, as of the day, the death toll from the apartment fire stood at 83. This is the worst figure since the Hong Kong warehouse fire in 1948 that left 176 people dead. Among those injured and being treated in hospitals, 17 are in stable condition, 12 are critical, and 29 are seriously injured. Casualties also occurred among firefighters, with 1 dead and 10 injured. The number of missing persons was counted at 279.
