Lee Soo-keun expressed his feelings about serving as captain on "Spike War."
On the afternoon of the 28th, MBN sports variety show "Spike War" held an online production press conference that was live-streamed. The press conference was attended by PD Lee Yoo-jung; Director General Kim Se-jin; coaches Shin Jin-sik and Kim Yo-han; captain Lee Soo-keun; Boom; player representatives Seong Hoon, Yoon Sung-bin, Lee Yong-dae, Ahn Seong-hoon; and Lunait Kael, among others, who talked about the show.
"Spike War" is a sports variety program that captures a battle of celebrities in volleyball on an 18X9m court. "Volleyball legends" Kim Se-jin, Shin Jin-sik and Kim Yo-han form a mixed-gender celebrity volleyball team and begin a long journey aiming for an international competition against a Japanese celebrity volleyball team.
That day Lee Soo-keun said, "You might find it quite surprising that I'm in this position. I will show that sports are done with the heart, not with height," and emphasized, "Again, you can't judge without watching. You must watch it." When asked why he was appointed captain, he said, "Each of the players has a strong personality. I can soothe them and tell the coach when he's uncomfortable, 'It might be like this for this reason.' I can help at team dinners and in those kinds of ways, uh?Xuh?X."
Boom also said, "Rather than athletic skill, everyone has different achievements. The captain's role is to control that well." Lee Soo-keun joked, "Now sports variety shows are the trend. Is it simply a variety show? We are a variety show. There's fun. If volleyball starts to go wrong, we'll try skeleton. If that goes wrong, we'll try badminton, and if that goes wrong, we'll do trot."
He said, "In recreational sports, these days everyone is tall, but in the 1990s they weren't that tall. There are many shortcomings in space for people to access volleyball. I hope it becomes more active so local governments can provide indoor sports facilities, and that volleyball can be more easily accessible and develop further."
In response, Boom praised Lee Soo-keun's performance, saying, "His reflexes are good, so his defensive ability is incredible. If taller players clear it from above, those below have more time to react, so they can defend better. His reflexes are outstanding."
Lee Soo-keun confessed, "If you have height and physicality you can play in the front, but I was small since I was young. I was always lonely. I realized volleyball can be this lonely," which drew laughter.
PD Lee Yoo-jung said, "I saw one team as a bit more experienced and one team as having growth potential. Lee Soo-keun learned volleyball formally. Volleyball has a libero position, and I used to think volleyball was only for tall people, but liberos are more advantageous the smaller they are. He is performing the libero role excellently."
Meanwhile, "Spike War" premieres on the 30th at 9:30 p.m.
