Actor Kim Young-dae congratulated actress Shin Mina, who co-starred with him in his previous work, on her marriage.
On the 25th, Kim Young-dae conducted an interview at a cafe in Sogyeok-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul for the TVING original Dear X (writers Choi Ja-won and Ban Ji-woon, directors Lee Eung-bok and Park So-hyun).
Dear X tells the story of a woman who wears a mask to escape hell and rise to the highest place, and the Xs who were brutally trampled by her. It is a melodrama of the woman's ruin, who hid a cruel true nature behind a beautiful face, and the man's desperate yet beautiful ruin who chose hell to protect her.
Kim Young-dae played Yoon Jun-seo, a man who believes salvation is love, and delivered a more deeply felt romantic performance. He walked through any mud for Baek A-jin (Kim Yoo-jung), but while portraying Yoon Jun-seo, whose everything he had protected began to shake in the face of love, Kim Young-dae showed a deeper acting ability by convincingly portraying a character with a complex inner life beyond the cold, chic image he had shown until now.
With Kim Young-dae's performance, Dear X ranked among the top on overseas OTT platforms such as HBO Max in 17 Asian countries, and it ranked No. 1 particularly in parts of Southeast Asia. Through Dear X, Kim Young-dae solidified his position as a leading actor capable of deeply handling complex inner acting and romantic narratives.
After the release of Dear X, Kim Young-dae said of the pouring praise, "I watched parts 1 through 4 in advance before the Busan International Film Festival. When I shot dramas in the past, I worried a lot while watching rough cuts, but Dear X was not like that and it was so fun. It felt different from the things I have shot so far, and I watched it as a viewer."
He added, "Filming started a year ago and was finished, and I was waiting, but after the broadcast came out the reaction was good so I felt proud. The drama itself was led by Kim Yoo-jung from a viewer's perspective, and it blended well with the Yoon Jun-seo I played and came out entertaining, so I am grateful."
Beyond praise for Dear X, there was surprising news. It was the news that Shin Mina, who had paired as a couple with Kim Young-dae in Don't Want to Lose, will marry Kim Woo-bin in December after a long romance. For Kim Young-dae, who had paired as a couple and spouse in the drama, it was inevitably a special feeling.
Kim Young-dae said, "I texted as soon as I saw it, 'I'm so happy for you,' but one day she didn't read it, and the next day she replied, 'Young-dae, thank you so much.' But when she replied she didn't tell me about the wedding. I don't know if she'll invite me. After working with actress Shin Mina, I acted with actress Lee Sun-bin. Actress Lee Sun-bin is also in a long-term relationship with actor Lee Kwang-soo, and since actor Kim Woo-bin and actor Lee Kwang-soo are close, I thought she might know of my existence."
After co-starring with Shin Mina, Kim Young-dae coincidentally worked with another long-term celebrity couple member Lee Sun-bin in To the Moon.
