The new release showcasing the group ILLIT's fresh charm is receiving a positive response in Japan following its domestic success.
According to Japan's Oricon latest chart released on Oct. 26 (Nov. 25 chart), ILLIT (Yun-a, Minju, Moka, Won-hee, Iroha)'s first single album 'NOT CUTE ANYMORE' ranked No. 3 on the daily single ranking immediately upon release. It is encouraging that a Korean single by a rookie in its third month since debut in Japan secured a top position on a chart filled with releases by well-known local artists such as Nogizaka46 and MAZZEL.
The title track of the same name is also making its presence felt on major music charts in Japan. The song not only hit No. 1 on AWA's real-time rising chart on the day of release but also ranked high on Line Music and iTunes Japan. In addition, it appeared on the YouTube trending music chart—which is compiled based on most-viewed songs and music videos—in a total of 23 country/region rankings, including Korea (No. 3), Australia (No. 2), the U.K. (No. 10) and the U.S. (No. 12), demonstrating its global popularity.
ILLIT's 'NOT CUTE ANYMORE' music video, which highlights the group's diverse styling and witty direction, rapidly racked up views after its release, surpassing 10 million views in about 29 hours. It then topped YouTube music video trending worldwide (as of 2 p.m. on the 26th), drawing attention.
Interest is also high in the song's unique lyrics, such as "I prefer a loose jellyfish to a puppy." The lyrics, which capture ILLIT's sensibility about not confining themselves to others' views and showing off their individuality, have been widely discussed. On YouTube channel 'Hyoyeon's Level Up,' ILLIT said, "We included a lot of the members' tastes. Many people see us as cute, but there are many aspects that aren't, so we tried to express that in the lyrics."
ILLIT will appear on various entertainment programs. Today (the 27th), they will appear on KBS Kpop's YouTube channel Minju's Pink Cabinet, hosted by Minju, and on the 30th they will appear on 'Dolbakiil.'
