Kian84 revealed first-hand the filming of 'Extreme 84,' in which he ran through harsh nature, extreme conditions and unpredictable variables.
On the 27th, MBC, ahead of the premiere of the new variety show "Extreme 84," vividly released from behind the scenes of the "extreme marathon" delivered directly by the protagonist Kian84 to the stories of the crew who ran together.
Through this written interview, Kian84 honestly laid out the heated journey of evolving from the laughter and pain of a "solo runner" to "crew leader 84." In addition, vivid behind-the-scenes details felt on the set of "Extreme 84" raise expectations for the broadcast.
The following is the full Q&A of Kian84 on "Extreme 84."
Q. How many marathons have you participated in so far? What were the extremes of each?
"I participated in three events on 'Extreme 84.' It seems to be divided into three categories: heat, cold and hangovers."
Q. When was the toughest moment during filming?
"The events always felt difficult. Preparing was hard in mid‑summer temperatures above 30 degrees, and I think the second marathon was probably the hardest. Saying it was more a festival than a race, the marathon I ran with a hangover was painfully awful."
Q. If you had to pick the moment when your body or mind reached the most extreme while completing the extreme courses?
"The pain was different every moment, so it's hard to choose one, but at the last, third event, everything I had practiced flashed before my eyes, so that day's race is the most memorable. When the remaining distance was over, the running in 'Extreme 84' would be finished, so for the first time the remaining distance felt sadly short."
Q. Why did Kian84, who used to run alone, decide to recruit a crew this time?
"I kept entering races running alone. There were camera directors and production staff who ran intermittently, but I think having running mates who participate with you helps you go farther. Like enduring military service or hard times together. The shared sense of struggle became a tremendous source of strength."
Q. Could you introduce the crew members who ran with you?
"Kwon Hwa‑woon is a friend who runs really well. It's as if they were born differently; if I were a chicken, that friend would have been born an ostrich. They ran really well and seemed to have a good heart. I learned a lot from running with that friend. Also, there are three people challenging a marathon for the first time: one man and two women. Anyway, personally I enjoyed watching the first-time runners beside me. It reminded me of my thoughts when I first entered a race, and it made me feel a greater sense of responsibility to do better as the crew leader."
Kian84 jumps into an unimaginably extreme course beyond 42.195km, tests himself in extreme marathon environments and completes the challenge; MBC's ultra‑extreme running variety show "Extreme 84" will premiere on the 30th at 9:10 p.m.
