Rookie boy group Nowz (NOWZ) steps up to the plate with a powerful punch that captures youthful audacity. The new song that will showcase the determination to become the future K-pop "cleanup hitter" from a "rookie" is "HomeRUN."
Nowz (Hyunbin, Yun, Yeonwoo, Jinhyeok, Siyun) released their third single Play Ball (Play Ball) at 6 p.m. on the 26th on various online music sites and unveiled the music video for the title track HomeRUN (HomeRUN).
Nowz achieved a career high with their first mini album Ignition after rebranding in July. Riding positive reviews from various global performances and being selected as Billboard's featured "rookie of the month," Nowz has continually proven their potential and previewed a more expanded musical spectrum and a bold transformation with this comeback.
The third single Play Ball is a step in a new challenge for Nowz. While the previous album experimented with diverse genres such as alternative rock and cinematic pop, this single focuses on EDM and expands into broader genres including old-school hip-hop and ballads.
The title track HomeRUN is an EDM-based dance song that harmonizes a heavy drop with the members' unrestrained rapping. Like the title, the symbolic meanings of "Home" and "RUN" clearly reveal Nowz's goals. It expresses the youth's challenge and achievement to keep going despite an uncertain future and to turn crises into opportunities. In particular, member Jinhyeok participated in the lyrics, embedding Nowz's sincere story.
The music video released with the song boasts an overwhelming scale reminiscent of a sports film. Nowz's performance, set against a peaceful miniature town contrasted with a rough-textured baseball field and flaming ruins, maximizes visual pleasure.
Nowz cleverly incorporated movements of swinging a bat or pitching into the choreography while wearing modern reinterpretations of uniforms. Under searchlights illuminating the dark stadium, the dynamic formations performed with dancers convey the energy of boys sprinting full force toward victory.
The single Play Ball includes three tracks: the title track HomeRUN, the old-school hip-hop track GET BUCK (Get Buck), and the dreamy ballad "To a world without a name." Member Siyun also participated in writing lyrics for a recorded track, showing their musical growth.
Nowz teased the thrill of HomeRUN along with the Play Ball declaration that signals the start of a baseball game. Play Ball, which captures their growth as they aim to become more than a "rookie" and the future "cleanup hitter," is available on various music sites.
