On Wednesday the 26th, KBS special project 'Transhuman' part 3 'The gene revolution' contains the remarkable story of Looney, who suffered for a long time from end-stage renal failure and found hope through a groundbreaking transplant method. In November last year, medical staff received a new kidney to be transplanted into Looney amid a tense situation where every second counted. Narrator Han Hyo-joo said, "But what appeared amid the medical team's expectations was not a human kidney. It was a pig kidney," adding to the intrigue with an engaging voice.
Behind the possibility of Looney's xenogeneic kidney transplant is Dr. George Church. He is a world-renowned genomicist known for attempting to restore the DNA of the extinct mammoth.
