The film Avatar: The Seed Bearer — Fire and Ashes (director James Cameron, distributed by The Walt Disney Company Korea), which will be available first in the world in Korea on Dec. 17, introduces the newly appearing ash tribe "Mankwan" and the wind traders "Tillarim" in this installment.
Starting with the first appearance of Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) of the Omaticaya clan living in the mysterious forests of Pandora in 2009, the Metkayina clan, who make their home in Pandora's blue seas, newly appeared in 2022, and the Avatar series has introduced distinctive new clans in each film. In Avatar: The Seed Bearer — Fire and Ashes, the even more striking ash tribe "Mankwan" and the wind traders "Tillarim" will be introduced, promising fans worldwide another wondrous spectacle and an expanded exploration of Pandora's world.
First, the ash tribe "Mankwan" lost everything due to volcanic eruptions and lives on a desolate land covered in ash unlike anything seen in the Avatar series until now. They are filled with anger toward Pandora's great mother Eywa for not responding at the moment of extinction and live believing that "fire" is the purest and most sacred existence.
In particular, Barang (Una Chaplin), who leads the ash tribe, is worshiped as the savior of the tribe and is a central character in this work as someone who seeks to gain greater power and shake Pandora. Una Chaplin, the granddaughter of Charlie Chaplin, plays Barang and is expected to display an overwhelming presence. Director James Cameron said, "Every gesture, tone and look of hers was excellent. Watching her acting on screen makes you realize how overpowering that immersion is," heightening anticipation.
The wind traders "Tillarim" are also newly introduced and draw attention. The Tillarim are a nomadic clan that sails the vast skies, riding enormous flying creatures called medusoid across Pandora. They engage in barter with various clans and convey news between them, and they are expected to offer a charm different from the clans seen in previous Avatar films.
Above all, the Tillarim leader Pailak (David Dullis) is a character who leads the clan without losing his composure at any moment and is expected to accompany and aid the Sully family on the dangerous new journey they undertake, increasing curiosity. David Dullis, who was nominated for the Golden Globe and the Emmy for supporting actor for Fargo and is known domestically for his role as Professor Remus Lupin in the Harry Potter series, plays Pailak and is expected to deliver an exceptional performance.
