(Following interview ②) EXchange / Transit Love season 4 producer cautiously explained the past breakups of the cast members who drew attention.
Tving original variety show EXchange / Transit Love season 4 director Kim In-ha met domestic reporters on the 24th at the CJ ENM Center in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul. He talked there about the recently released EXchange / Transit Love season 4, saying it has passed the midpoint and is showing middle-to-late narratives.
As a dating reality show in which couples who broke up for various reasons gather in one house to review past romances, meet new connections and find their own love, the EXchange / Transit Love series was loved each season for focusing closely on the cast members' past dating histories. In this process, the cast members' breakups also drew attention.
In particular this season, the past relationship between Ji-hyun and Won-gyu, who once considered marriage but broke up, became a topic of conversation. Even though Won-gyu is six years older than Ji-hyun and is a doctor of traditional Korean medicine, controversy arose over him repeatedly mentioning stories of acquaintances' girlfriends who had achieved socioeconomic success in front of his then girlfriend, a novice actress, and for accompanying a long-time female friend on a wedding dress tour and offering advice.
There were parts the director had to be careful about when revealing the cast members' pasts. Kim In-ha said, "In fact, much of it is not being revealed. It has been highly edited," he said cautiously. He explained, "However, when a narrative affected the cast members' relationships, we tend to show it a lot. If it is a topic that frequently comes up between them, audiences would wonder, 'What is that about?' if they didn't know, so that level is all coming out."
As a result, there has been criticism that the show focuses too much on the cast members' pasts and that new romance lines are not visible. Kim In-ha said, "I think it's still a cautious process. It feels faster than past seasons. It was like that in other seasons too, but if you think of people meeting on set for just a week, it might be easier to understand. It's about a period of roughly ten days. In terms of that pace, we are maintaining the proper speed."
He added, "There will be further developments at the travel destination," and said, "New relationships will play a part. There are new entrants. You may react with, 'Ah,' while watching. I think you'll find episode 12 very entertaining, and there will be impactful lines in the latter half, so you can look forward to it," showing confidence.
