Coupang Play variety show "Elite League" season 3 confirmed its release schedule for Friday, Dec. 12, at 8 p.m. and released a teaser poster and trailer.
Coupang Play variety show "Elite League" season 3 is a high-purity brain-physical survival contest that crowns brain geniuses competing for the title of Korea's top medical and science-and-engineering universities.
Coupang Play's variety show "Elite League," which set the standard for the "brain-physical survival" through seasons 1 and 2, has become one of Coupang Play's flagship franchises by ranking No. 1 in popularity immediately after each season's release.
In the new season returning this time, six teams will compete for the title of "king of the natural sciences": three prestigious medical teams and three prestigious science-and-engineering teams. The medical representatives are Seoul National University, Yonsei University and Sungkyunkwan University; the science-and-engineering representatives are Seoul National University, KAIST and Pohang University of Science and Technology, with Seoul National University fielding two teams. Following Seoul National University, Yonsei University, KAIST and Pohang University of Science and Technology, which have participated since season 1, Sungkyunkwan University announced its first appearance, drawing attention to what performances it will show. Also, Seoul National University, which created an undefeated legend by winning consecutive championships in seasons 1 and 2, is expected to perform strongly again this season.
The released teaser poster strikingly features the actual cast standing on a giant chessboard. The brain game on the giant chessboard is an homage to the "human chess" game that drew great attention in season 1. The copy "medical vs. science and engineering: a new ranking is decided" intuitively conveys the game rules newly attempted this season for the "science geniuses," raising expectations for more novel games and unpredictable survival developments.
The released teaser trailer also captures the extraordinary ambitions of contestants facing a fierce brain showdown between medical and science-and-engineering fields. The medical representative students' unprecedented credentials—"No. 1 in the entire school at Seoul Science High School," "perfect scorer on the 2025 college entrance exam," "No. 1 in the entire school at Foreign Language High School for three consecutive years"—are revealed and overwhelm the viewer. Against these medical contestants, the science-and-engineering side boasts intriguing mind games, confidently asserting victory in the brain showdown with lines like "Would a medical student have done this calculation?" and "Medical school isn't where true science students go."
Writer Kim Jung-sun, who earned the title of survival-show artisan with "The Genius" and "The Great Escape," reunites with producer Heo Beom-hoon, who worked on seasons 1 and 2 of
