'Baseball queen' Yoon Seok-min mentioned the possibility of attending games in person.
On the afternoon of the 25th, at The Saint Sindorim Grand Ballroom Hall in Guro-gu, Seoul, Channel A's new variety show 'Baseball queen' held a production presentation. 'Baseball queen,' which premieres today (the 25th), is a sports variety program in which 'legendary female athletes' from different sports step onto the unfamiliar stage of 'baseball'.
The show, a sports variety program that reunites Shin Jae-ho, producer of 'The Iron Squad W,' and writer Kang Sook-kyung, who oversaw 'The Iron Squad W' and 'Physical 100' seasons 1 and 2, is drawing explosive anticipation from the start as Director General Park Se-ri leads and manager Choo Shin-soo and coaches Lee Dae-hyung and Yoon Seok-min form a solid 'manager-coach lineup'.
The final roster for the women's baseball team, newly founded as the country's 50th team, includes track and field athlete Kim Min-ji; rhythmic gymnast Shin Su-ji; handball players Kim On-ah and Park Ha-yan; judoka Kim Seong-yeon; swimmer Jeong Yu-in; speed skater Kim Bo-reum; softball player Ayaka; boxer Choi Hyun-mi; shooter Park Bo-ram; rower Lee Soo-yeon; soccer player Joo Su-jin; ice hockey player Shin So-jung; badminton player Jang Su-young; and tennis player Song A-ga.
Under the team name 'Black Queens,' they have united to spark a boom in 'women's baseball' and are sweating toward their ultimate goal of winning the national championship.
On the day, producer Shin Jae-ho said, "Our goal is to win the national championship, but because this is a newly formed team, challenging immediately is difficult. In friendly match formats against other, stronger teams, the levels are quite varied."
Shin said, "In fact, women's baseball tournaments are held about four times a year. Participating in those and winning is the concrete goal. As will be revealed in today's broadcast, we will announce a system where one person is released after three losses. Although 'Baseball queen' is a show intended to motivate, I think there's no difference from a professional setting when players are paid. We wanted to cultivate a team spirit of not releasing any player."
Could there be live, in-person games like the current baseball variety shows 'A Clean Sweep' and 'Flame Baseball'? Yoon Seok-min confessed, "I've enjoyed doing baseball programs; they feel good. We talked about trying in-person attendance, but that's not something I can decide. Still, I think it will go well. I'm confident, and I think it will do well enough."
Meanwhile, although baseball is new for them, the 'sports queens' from various fields who are familiar with competition will officially challenge 'baseball,' and Channel A's 'Baseball queen,' which will write a new chapter in women's sports history, premieres Tuesday the 25th at 10 p.m.
