Actor Tae Hang-ho, who recently proved a "silken-tofu-like" surprising charm beneath a rough exterior through variety shows, will take the screen this winter with the film "The Divine Band" (director: Kim Hyung-hyeop | grants: Park Si-hoo, Jung Jin-woon, Tae Hang-ho, Jang Ji-geon, Han Jeong-wan, Go Hye-jin, Moon Kyung-min, Choi Seon-ja, Nam Tae-hun, Shin Han-gyeol, Seo Dong-won, Kang Seung-wan | distributor: CJ CGV㈜ | production: Studio Target㈜).
The film "The Divine Band," set for release on Dec. 31, tells the story of a fake praise troupe created in North Korea to earn foreign currency. Tae Hang-ho plays the conductor Kim Seong-chul, who leads the "fake band," and is expected to deliver an unforgettable emotional experience to audiences.
Tae Hang-ho appeared as a special MC on the SBS variety show "Same Bed, Different Dreams 2 - You Are My Destiny" that aired on the 17th and drew intense attention. On the show he revealed for the first time his wife, who resembles Kim Sa-rang, and their 5-year-old daughter, capturing viewers' attention. In particular, his devoted love story — saying, "I took the first train every day to see my wife off to work" — and his unguarded "dad who adores his daughter" side in front of his daughter, revealed without reserve, dominated real-time search terms with a lovable "silken-tofu man" charm that is 180 degrees different from his previous strong scene-stealer image.
The sincere surprising charm he showed on variety shows carries over fully into the film "The Divine Band." Tae Hang-ho, loved for intense characters in dramas such as "The Last Empress," "Taxi Driver," and "Crash," transforms perfectly into a delicate "artist" in this work. His character Kim Seong-chul is a perfectionist who graduated from Pyongyang University of the Arts but is a warm leader who believes, "On stage, it is not the nerves but the heart that conducts."
As in "Same Bed, Different Dreams 2," where he showed devoted love for his family, his performance in the film, embracing ragtag band members and creating a "real" harmony, is expected to warm audiences' hearts. The pleasant chemistry he will show with Park Si-hoo, Jung Jin-woon and the other 12 members of the "Victory Band" also draws anticipation.
Tae Hang-ho, who has emerged as the biggest trend of the second half of 2025 across variety shows and the screen, unveils his new life role in "The Divine Band," which opens on Dec. 31.
