A robber who broke into the home of actor Nana (real name Im Jin-ah), a former member of the group After School, filed a petition for a review of detention on the grounds that he was not read his Miranda rights, but the court dismissed it.
According to Yonhap News on the 24th, the Guri Police Station in Gyeonggi Province plans to transfer a man in his 30s, A, who is detained on suspicion of aggravated robbery and injury, to the prosecution in custody that day.
Earlier on the morning of the 15th, A broke into the home wielding a weapon, and Nana and her mother got into a physical struggle to stop him. In the process, A was reported to have sustained a laceration to the jaw caused by the weapon.
However, Nana and her mother were recognized as acting in self-defense and were not booked. A police official said, "There was an actual infringement on the victims, and during the process of defending themselves it was found that they did not inflict serious injury on the suspect. Considering everything, we determined the victims' actions amounted to self-defense and did not book them," the official said.
Also, on the 18th A filed a petition for a review of detention saying, "The police did not inform me of the Miranda rights during the arrest process," but the court dismissed it. The petition for review of detention extended the detention period, and the police said they planned to detain A on the 24th.
Meanwhile, Nana and her mother also suffered greatly from this incident. The agency said, "The robber broke into the home carrying a weapon, and as a result a very dangerous situation occurred in which both actor Nana and her mother could have been seriously harmed."
The agency said, "Because of the robber's physical attack, Nana's mother lost consciousness from serious injuries, and Nana herself sustained physical injuries while getting out of the crisis. Both are currently in need of treatment and absolute rest."
The agency added, "The specific details of the case are under investigation and cannot be disclosed, and additional information will follow the announcements of investigative agencies.
