The group ILLIT sparked a peculiar addiction with an unprecedented, distinctive charm.
ILLIT (Yoonah, Minju, Moka, Wonhee, Iroha) released the music video for the title track of their single album 1, "NOT CUTE ANYMORE," on HYBE Labels' YouTube channel at 6 p.m. on the 24th.
The video solemnly showed ILLIT declaring a "cuteness cutoff." The fantasy-like staging within reality captivates the viewer throughout. In front of a pink tombstone engraved with "CUTE IS DEAD," the members make a firm resolution, but they struggle interestingly as they are attacked by unexpectedly cute creatures. Witty scenes — dancing expressionlessly and falling off the stage, engaging in a rough sports car race and ultimately being caught by the police — provide entertainment.
ILLIT's infinite charm can also be seen in their diverse styling. The members effortlessly pull off kitsch, chic and cool concepts, revealing ILLIT's real selves that cannot be defined as one. Ironically, although they consistently reject cuteness, the twist is that cuteness naturally seeps out in all their actions.
Some of the released performances raise expectations for the stage. The synchronized choreography, completed with restrained movements and blank expressions on a mirror ball, adds an aloof charm. The choreography that nods to the beat becomes more addictive the more you watch. The facial acting that changes moment to moment according to hand movements that hide and reveal the face is the killing part, where you can discover a new side of ILLIT.
The title track "NOT CUTE ANYMORE" is a pop song with a reggae rhythm base that intuitively expresses the desire not to be seen as only cute. The distinctive lyrics, which capture many sides of the true "me" that others don't know well, reflect ILLIT's actual tastes, making it enjoyable to listen to. Minimal sound and ILLIT's pure vocals, sung as if speaking to the other person, seize the ear. In particular, the chorus that repeats "I'm not cute anymore" is attractive.
ILLIT will make their first live performance of the new song on KBS2's MUSIC BANK on the 28th. A pop-up to celebrate the new release will run from the 25th through the 30th at K-Town For You COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
