Actor Lee Si-young deleted photos after revealing a "born art" photo of her 17-day-old daughter following criticism from internet users.
Earlier, on the 21st Lee Si-young posted a video to her social media with the caption: "How about me as this year's Christmas ornament? Merry Christmas in advance."
The released video showed Lee Si-young filming her 17-day-old daughter's born art (Born art). Born art refers to newborn photography taken while the baby, younger than 20 days, sleeps in the same curled position as in the mother's womb. It is commonly known to be taken between 7 and 21 days after birth, around the time of discharge from the postpartum care center.
With Christmas about a month away, Lee Si-young chose a born art concept based on Christmas and celebrated the holiday early. She dressed her sleeping daughter as a pretty Santa, placed her in a box with tree ornaments and gift boxes, and photographed her.
Lee Si-young said, "So small and precious. I went to the studio with a million worries but I'm so glad I did it. I'll take it out and look at it every day," expressing satisfaction, but some internet users criticized the photo after seeing it, asking whether the child is a prop and saying calling the baby a decoration was an excessive expression. But other internet users rebutted, saying, "They're just saying it's cute, why are people so sensitive?" and "Born art is a common type of shoot."
As debate continued, Lee Si-young apparently aware of the controversy deleted the post after one day.
Meanwhile, Lee Si-young married a restaurateur nine years her senior in 2017 and had a son, but they divorced after eight years. During that process, controversy arose when she learned the frozen embryos' storage deadline was approaching and decided to implant them and become pregnant with her second child without her ex-husband's consent.
The legal dispute was put to rest when the ex-husband said, "I will fulfill my responsibilities as a father," and Lee Si-young gave birth to her second daughter on the 5th.
