broadcaster Kim Guk-jin belatedly mentioned junior Park Soo-hong's "straw trauma" and bowed his head, saying "my one remark changed 20 years."
Recently released on the YouTube channel "Gukjini does it too," the footage showed Kim Guk-jin attempting his first-ever "Han River ramen." What began as a casual vlog-style shoot led, over a cup of ramen, to an unexpected confession.
That day Kim Guk-jin could not hide his surprise as he stood with the production team in front of a ramen cooker near the Han River. At the cooker that automatically fills water when you scan the barcode, he marveled for four minutes, saying, "they boil ramen with paper. Won't it burn?," and "how do they know this timing?"
After finishing his ramen and recounting behind-the-scenes stories from past commercials, Kim Guk-jin suddenly fell silent and reflected, saying "I say a lot of unnecessary things." He then cautiously brought up Park Soo-hong's name.
Kim Guk-jin said, "Back then, Soo-hong drank a beverage with a straw. So I casually said, 'How can a man purse his lips and drink that?'" and confessed, "it was just a joking image comment, but thinking about it now it's nonsense."
The problem is that the joke followed him for 20 years. Kim Guk-jin said, "After that, Soo-hong didn't use straws. For 20 years. I was even more surprised when I heard that later." Producer Lee Chan, hearing this, also expressed surprise, saying, "I worked on a program with senior Soo-hong two years ago, and even when there was a straw he put it down and drank from the cup. Kim Guk-jin said, "One day I asked, 'Why don't you use a straw?' and he said, 'Didn't you say that before, senior?' Wow… I really reflected a lot then," and bowed his head once more.
Finally he said, "Whether you use a straw or just drink, what does it matter. Don't take my words so to heart," delivering an awkwardly funny apology as a senior.
