Actor Kim Eui-sung again offered an explanation amid mounting suspicions ahead of the first broadcast of Taxi Driver 3.
On the 21st, a video titled "This is Kim Eui-sung. I have something I must say." was uploaded to SBS's official channel.
In the video that day, Kim Eui-sung introduced himself, "Hello. I am actor Kim Eui-sung, who plays President Jang in Taxi Driver 3." He went on to explain, "Many people, while watching Taxi Driver, seem to be waiting for the moment I betray them. I'm really not a villain."
He appealed, "Really, I'm not the mastermind. I won't betray anyone. I'm so wronged that I can't sleep now. It's already season 3 — what do I have to do for you to believe me?"
He continued, "If you're curious whether I really betray them or not, check it out on the first broadcast on Friday, Nov. 21 at 9:50 p.m. on SBS' Taxi Driver 3," and bowed his head, saying, "Please believe me now. Thank you."
In the Taxi Driver series, Kim Eui-sung plays Jang Seong-cheol, the representative of the taxi company Mujigae Transport and the Bluebird Foundation, a foundation supporting crime victims. After losing his parents to a serial killer in his youth, he formed the private revenge-for-hire service Taxi Driver team to punish criminals, and at the same time operated the Bluebird Foundation as a supporter providing relief to victims.
But because Kim Eui-sung has long been loved as an actor who specializes in villain roles, some viewers who watched the show suspected Jang Seong-cheol of betrayal and raised a "mastermind" theory. Afterwards, Jang Seong-cheol, played by Kim Eui-sung, dispelled suspicions by not betraying the protagonists through season 2 and instead taking revenge on villains, but reactions that "he will betray them someday" still remain. In response, SBS drew laughs by posting Kim Eui-sung's explanation video directly on its official channel.
Especially regarding the character poster released ahead of season 3 that drew attention, Kim Eui-sung said, "I saw it too. I was surprised when I saw it. No matter how you look at it, doesn't it look like not on the good side? It's become a bit difficult for me to ask you to believe me so casually. But I believe if you watch the first broadcast you'll understand what the backstory is. Isn't it enough that it's cool?"
Afterwards, SBS displayed the caption "President Jang is really not a villain," but immediately added a question mark, "President Jang is really not a villain?" to add wit.
Meanwhile, Taxi Driver 3 premieres tonight (the 21st) at 9:50 p.m.
