Actor Kim Yeong-seo personally wrote and produced the original play "Haenyeo's courtyard" (directed by Oh Sang-woon), which will be performed on the 28th and 29th at the Dambangi small theater of Jeju Theater, located on Gwandeok-ro in Jeju City, Jeju.
This performance is meaningful because it is the third original work presented by actor Kim Yeong-seo, and he will lead the stage as the work's writer, producer and lead actor.
Kim Yeong-seo previously demonstrated directing and producing capabilities through the original plays "Mother's spring" and "Mother's summer," and "Haenyeo's courtyard" won the Popularity Award at the 6th Malmoi Theater Festival last year, proving its artistic merit.
"Haenyeo's courtyard" is a human drama that depicts the process by which a haenyeo, "a person surnamed Choi," who has spent her life working in the sea, and "Seon-ok," who raises a daughter with an intellectual disability on her own, heal each other's pain through an accidental meeting.
In the work, the role of Seon-ok is played by Kim Yeong-seo herself, who fully conveys her interpretation and emotions on stage.
In this Jeju run as well, veteran actress Choi Seon-ja, who played the haenyeo Choi in the premiere casting, will take the role and present a deeply layered performance.
Kim Yeong-seo, who is also the representative of the theater company Bitnal Yeong, said, "I am deeply moved to be able to stage the work again in Jeju at the invitation of Jeju Theater Social Cooperative," and noted, "I will create a stage that can sincerely communicate with the audience."
Kim Yeong-seo began acting later in life and debuted in the play "Gwanchon essays – looking for Ongjeom-i," and has recently expanded her activities by appearing in the drama "First Lady."
This Jeju run of "Haenyeo's courtyard" is expected to offer audiences a sincere stage, delivering a deep aftertaste and a warm message.
