Actor Ha Jung-woo's fourth directorial effort, the film "Upstairs People," has released still cuts.
On Dec. 19, the film "Upstairs People" (director Ha Jung-woo, distributed/provided by BY4M Studio, produced by C-JeS·Walkhouse Company) unveiled stills of the upstairs and downstairs that capture the stark differences between Ha Jung-woo and Lee Ha-nui, and Gong Hyo-jin and Kim Dong-wook.
"Upstairs People" is a film about the unpredictable events that unfold when, every night, the upstairs couple Ha Jung-woo and Lee Ha-nui and the downstairs couple Gong Hyo-jin and Kim Dong-wook end up having dinner together because of different kinds of noise between floors. In particular, it is drawing attention as Ha Jung-woo's fourth directorial work following "Rollercoaster," "Heo Sam-gwan," and "Lobby."
The newly released upstairs and downstairs stills from "Upstairs People" depict the four people sitting facing each other in one space. It is as if the temperature of the conversation, the tension of differing emotions, and hidden desires dominate the room. Especially, the dinner scene where the two couples meet for a housewarming appears calm on the surface but generates subtle ripples whose true nature is unknown, hinting that a meal and tea time will not end ordinarily and arousing curiosity.
"Upstairs People" is a work that, based on the witty and ingenious setup of "different kinds of noise," candidly uncovers the emotional distances, fractures in relationships, and temperature of desire that any couple may once have worried about. Director Ha Jung-woo drew out the true abilities of actors Gong Hyo-jin, Kim Dong-wook, and Lee Ha-nui through a densely constructed interplay of dialogue and emotion and dynamic direction within a confined space. The four actors complete an alluring rhythm from their respective positions, raising expectations. It opens on Dec. 3.
