A report says Hollywood star Tom Cruise took the stance of "karma" regarding news of the split between his ex-wife Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban.
The Daily Mail reported on the 18th (local time) that Tom Cruise (63) said, "He described this as karma, recalling the unfair public opinion he received at the time," after the collapse of Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's 19-year marriage.
A source who asked to remain anonymous told International Business Times, "When Tom and Nicole divorced, all the blame fell on Tom and Nicole was portrayed as the victim," and said, "Nicole publicly took shots at him on broadcasts by belittling his height, but Tom kept silent and had to endure all the criticism."
The source added, "From Tom's perspective, who cannot forget that time, Nicole's recent divorce seems to feel like a kind of 'cause and effect,'" and said, "On the other hand, he knows of Nicole's pain, so his feelings are complicated."
The source also said, "Tom even felt uncomfortable when Nicole was praised as a 'perfect couple' after meeting Keith Urban," and added, "He thought the two were so different in style that they wouldn't last long, and in the end he seems to feel his prediction was right."
Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman married in 1990 and were together for 11 years, but they split in 2001 over religious issues (Scientology and controversies over child-rearing). Afterward, Tom remarried Katie Holmes in 2006 but divorced again in 2012. He is reported to currently have no contact with Katie and their daughter Suri.
Meanwhile, Keith Urban, who had remained silent after the recent divorce, resumed social media activity after about two months. He revealed his recent activities while promoting the reality program The Road, which selects 12 promising new acts to open the U.S. tour.
Earlier, Kidman began divorce proceedings at the end of September, and local media report that causes of the marriage's collapse include "distance due to busy schedules," "Keith Urban's midlife crisis," and "frequent conflicts."
