Comedian Kim Suyong suddenly lost consciousness and collapsed during filming and was rushed to the hospital, and as it was revealed that he underwent balloon angioplasty (stent) for an acute myocardial infarction, online attention is reexamining the possibility of his "prodromal symptoms." In addition, comments by comedy lend Lee Kyung-gyu drew attention.
His agency Media Lab Siso told OSEN on the 18th, "Kim Suyong was diagnosed with an acute myocardial infarction and today (the 18th) successfully underwent balloon angioplasty at Hanyang University Guri Hospital," adding, "He was moved to a general ward on the 17th and is recovering under medical care." They added, "We are grateful for the warm support. We will do our best for a full recovery."
#. During filming, both consciousness and breathing were absent…resuscitated by CPR
Earlier, Kim Suyong suddenly collapsed on the 14th while filming YouTube content in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province. On-site staff immediately provided emergency care, and the fire rescue team arrived and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) before he was rushed to the emergency room at Hanyang University Guri Hospital. He was in critical condition with no consciousness or breathing at the time, but regained consciousness after prompt treatment by medical staff, received treatment in the intensive care unit, and was later reported to have been moved to a general ward after stabilizing.
Fans expressed relief, saying, "My heart really dropped," and "Health is the most important thing."
#. Online attention on "Frank's sign"… "Is the diagonal earlobe crease a signal?"
After news of Kim Suyong's acute myocardial infarction broke, online communities raised suspicions that a diagonal crease in his recent photos' earlobe might have been a prodromal sign.
Some drew attention to it as "Frank's sign," which is associated with cardiovascular disease. Frank's sign was reported in 1973 by Dr. Frank in the United States, and there are studies suggesting that diagonal earlobe creases may be correlated with cardiovascular risks such as myocardial infarction and angina. However, a causal medical relationship has not been established, and it remains a sign studied only as a possibility.
An internet user actually shared, "My father complained of chest tightness, and when I looked, there was a diagonal crease in his earlobe, so he went to the hospital, where they found a blocked artery and he received a stent procedure," recounting their experience and drawing attention.
#. Lee Kyung-gyu also had the same "earlobe crease"… "I went to the brink of sudden death"
Senior comedian Lee Kyung-gyu also mentioned a similar experience in the past. On last year's You Quiz on the Block, he said, "I once received a viewer tip that the diagonal crease on my ear meant I was at risk of myocardial infarction." Lee Kyung-gyu actually underwent a stent procedure for a myocardial infarction about 10 years ago and said, "I went to the brink of sudden death," which, overlapping with Kim Suyong's case, has concentrated netizens' interest.
Of course, it has not been confirmed whether Kim Suyong's earlobe crease was a prodromal sign of myocardial infarction. His agency also made no mention of "prodromal symptoms," and the matter consists entirely of speculative opinions raised online. Nevertheless, fans reacted with comments such as "Just in case, I should check the earlobes of people around me," "Health comes without warning," and "Everyone should take care of their hearts," expressing heightened caution.
Kim Suyong debuted in 1991 on KBS University Gag Festival and began his career as part of KBS's seventh public recruitment class, and recently has been actively working through the YouTube channel "Jodongari" with Kim Yong-man and Ji Seok-jin. Many are praying that after overcoming the sudden crisis he will fully recover and return before fans.
