Actor and director Billy Bob Thornton spoke about his relationship with Angelina Jolie 22 years after their divorce.
Billy Bob Thornton said he still loved his fifth ex-wife, Angelina Jolie. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, he said that even 22 years after their divorce he has maintained a close friendship with Angelina Jolie.
He said, "Angelina and I had a wonderful time together. It was one of the greatest times of my life. She and I are still very, very close friends."
Also 70, he said that he and Jolie, 50, had a truly "civilized split" because they led different lives. He said, "When we met I was the more famous person," and added, "and when we were together, for some reason people and the media paid a lot of attention to celebrity couples, and that seems to be a very popular thing."
He said that he and Jolie could go nowhere, and wherever they went everything they said became a short quotation.
Thornton recalled headlines saying he and Jolie wore rockets containing each other's blood, saying, "We each had a little rocket, and there really was a drop of blood in it. It was a romantic little idea, and that was it. But by the end of the story we became vampires. We live in a dungeon, drink each other's blood—those kinds of stories."
Billy Bob Thornton and Angelina Jolie met on the 1999 film "Pushing Tin" and married the next year in Las Vegas. They filed for divorce in 2002, and the divorce was finalized in May 2003.
