Actor Lee Sang-yoon has been cast in the play "Turing Machine."
Lee Sang-yoon has been chosen to play Alan Turing in the play "Turing Machine," which opens Jan. 8, 2026, at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts S Theater in Seoul.
"Turing Machine" is a play that brings the life of British mathematical genius Alan Turing to the stage. "Turing Machine" previously swept four major categories at the prestigious Molière Awards in the French theater world — best playwright, best comedy, best actor, and best play — earning recognition for both its craftsmanship and artistry.
In particular, "Turing Machine" received rave reviews from audiences and critics during its 2023 domestic premiere for its intellectual yet densely layered performances and a four-sided stage that maximized the rapport between audience and actors. Lee Sang-yoon, newly joining "Turing Machine," is expected to delicately portray the complex life of Alan Turing and convey his deep loneliness and contemplation through sturdy inner acting.
Alan Turing, whom Lee Sang-yoon will portray, is a hidden hero who during World War II deciphered Germany's secret cipher Enigma and saved about 14 million lives and shortened the war. At the same time, Alan Turing is known as a pioneer of modern computer science who first proposed the concept of artificial intelligence (AI) and devised the "Turing test," an experiment to determine whether a machine possesses intelligence.
Lee Sang-yoon has closely communicated with audiences on stage through numerous works such as The Last Session, Closer, Death of a Salesman, and Waiting for Godot waiting for..., among others. At times he has embodied a head of household in the Great Depression who reflects on the true value of life, and at other times he has humorously explored the meaning of waiting as an understudy, fully immersing himself in each character and driving engagement to the highest level.
The play "Turing Machine," starring Lee Sang-yoon, will run from Jan. 8 to March 1, 2026, at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts S Theater in Seoul.
