A man who attacked singer and actress Ariana Grande was sentenced to prison.
On the 17th (local time), the Daily Mail reported that Australian influencer Johnson Wen, who grabbed Ariana Grande at the Singapore premiere of the film "Wicked: For Good," was sentenced to nine days in prison.
According to the report, Johnson Wen was found guilty of one count of causing a public disturbance and was sentenced to nine days in prison.
Singapore District Court Judge Christopher Koh said of Wen, who had previously rushed events featuring other celebrities, "his actions were premeditated and show a pattern suggesting he will do it again," and said, "you seem to want attention, and when you commit these acts you think only of yourself and do not consider the safety of others."
The judge said it was wrong for Wen to think his actions would have no consequences, noting, "people must always bear in mind that their actions have consequences." He added, "We must send a signal to people like this that acts that could potentially damage Singapore's reputation as a safe country will not be tolerated."
Johnson Wen rushed at Ariana Grande while the cast were walking the yellow carpet at last week's "Wicked: For Good" premiere. He put his arm around Grande and waved to the crowd. In response, Cynthia Erivo immediately protected Grande and jumped between her and Wen. Wen was later restrained by security and moved back behind the barricade.
After the commotion, he posted on his social media, "Ariana Grande, thank you for letting me run onto the yellow carpet with you," along with a video.
After the Singapore premiere, Ariana Grande did not comment on the incident and only left the remark, "Thank you, Singapore."
Johnson Wen previously rushed the stage at performances by The Weeknd and Katy Perry, causing controversy.
