(Follow-up to interview ②) 'Just Makeup' O Dolce Vita spoke about the controversial "Kamadenu" mission.
On the 18th at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Seoul, an interview was held with Coupang Play variety show Just Makeup's top three: Paris gold hand (Min Kim), Sontail (Son Ju-hee), and O Dolce Vita (Oh Hyun-jung).
Coupang Play variety show Just Makeup is a massive makeup survival contest in which makeup artists who represent K-beauty globally compete fiercely with their own distinct styles.
The final episode, released on the 7th, concluded the long journey of the survival contest fought for the sole title of K-beauty legend in spectacular fashion. After its release, it ranked No. 1 in variety show viewing satisfaction (source: Consumer Insight), was Coupang Play's most popular title for five consecutive weeks, received an IMDb rating of 8.5, entered the top 10 OTT rankings in seven overseas countries, and drew explosive global reactions, closing with the title of "the most talked-about variety show of the second half of 2025."
O Dolce Vita, an artist and Head of Team at the brand NAS, when asked about behind-the-scenes of appearing on the show, began, I belong to an organization, so exposing just myself would also expose the place I work, and I worried a lot. I thought about it for several months after the casting request and signed almost at the last moment.
She continued, (Then) I wondered once, as an artist, how far I could go, and after that curiosity arose, I worked hard to persuade the company. I said I wanted to be tested. Even if I got eliminated in round one, there was meaning in having the courage to compete, so I asked them to let me go. After doing it, the result was better than I expected, so I'm happy. She added, In broadcasting, unintended parts can be distorted. Because I have a certain public role, if I become someone or make a slip of the tongue, the repercussions could be huge. Those worries were rather big.
She recalled the toughest mission. O Dolce Vita said, The "Kamadenu" mission was the hardest. When I received the theme and found the answer, I thought "Kamadenu" would be a mother present in everyone's life, and in such a contest, bringing your mother onto a broadcast program required great courage. I also worried, what if my mother disliked it?
She said, My mother willingly came out, but at the time I deliberately didn't explain things. She came thinking that every contestant would bring their mother. And when I brought her, my intention wasn't to make someone cry or to create melodrama, but to make my own piece. However, I kept running into my mother in the waiting room; she kept following me and trying to assist me. Seeing that, I thought, I'm going to fail today. I kept getting choked up. I worried whether I could present well on stage.
She added, Thanks to my mother I was comforted, but many people didn't know she was my mother, and once they realized, everyone started crying, so it was hard to correct that situation, and I wondered, would my message be conveyed properly? She said, After the broadcast started, I was also afraid of how people would react. Some viewers can be harsh in their evaluations. Thinking that our mother was included in that evaluation was a bit of an emotional burden.
