Actor Kim Min-jong explained the controversy over 'dine-and-dash'.
The 18th broadcast of KBS1's 'Morning Yard' Tuesday guest seat featured leading actors Kim Min-jong and Ye Ji-won of the film 'Firenze' (director Lee Chang-yeol), which won three awards at a Hollywood film festival, as guests.
On the day, announcer Park Cheol-gyu said, "To show how many people were curious about Kim Min-jong's acting transformation, the teaser and related videos about the film had about 100 million views."
Announcer Eom Ji-in empathized, "Even just the image alone is a shocking transformation. People must have been surprised to see our Min-jong oppa like this."
Then Kim Min-jong shared a bittersweet anecdote, "Some people see me nicely on screen, but before that, when I grew my hair and beard and went around, people would say, 'Why do you live like that? Are you having a hard time these days?' Not joking—once at a restaurant the woman didn't take the meal payment."
Later, on the 'Only rumors are buried' segment, a rumor was mentioned that "after eating at a restaurant, I left without paying," and hearing this Kim Min-jong explained, "It wasn't that I tried to leave without paying; I tried to pay but they didn't accept it."
He said, "I used to appear on S network's program 'My Little Old Boy.' Mothers watch it a lot. At that time they filmed me building a container house in Yangpyeong and living there, but what's scary about broadcasting is they packaged it as me living there. They packaged it completely as if I lived in the container, and back then my mother had not been dead long and she was buried nearby, so that image strongly affected that woman."
He continued, "When I appeared after a long time, at first she didn't recognize me. My hair was long and I had a beard. Then she recognized me belatedly. She clicked her tongue and as she was about to pay and leave she said, 'It's fine, go,' and when I asked 'Why?' she said, 'Why do you live like that? You used to be so handsome. Why grow your hair and beard and live like that. Live healthily and diligently. Don't take my money, just go.' I told her I was growing my hair for a project but she wouldn't listen," adding, "I'm healthy and reasonably happy. Mom, I'm doing well in Gangnam," which drew laughter as he offered the explanation.
