The directors of Zootopia 2 said they expect pop star Ed Sheeran's original song to be a hit.
Walt Disney Company Korea held a press conference for the film Zootopia 2 (directed by Jared Bush, Byron Howard) on the morning of the 18th. Attending were actor Ginnifer Goodwin, who voiced main character Judy, Khai Hoï Kwan, who voiced Gary, director Jared Bush who helmed the work, and producer Yvette Merino. They spoke with Korean reporters about the film via an online video conference.
In particular, Zootopia 2 announced the birth of another outstanding original song following the hit Try Everything as global pop star Ed Sheeran wrote and composed a new song sung by Shakira, who returns in the role of the gazelle.
Director Jared, who minored in music in real life, said, "When we first heard Gary's theme song, everyone's eyes welled up. It was so beautiful and felt like listening to an old Hollywood–style song. In addition, music director Michael Giacchino created music of an incredible level for every moment. Even when something didn't seem to fit, he would improvise corrections on set with about 80 staff members, which was amazing."
He also said, "Before Ed Sheeran's original song 'Zoo' came out, we originally used 'Waka Waka,' which Shakira released 15 years ago. We wanted to create a song that felt like a similar festival, a song the crowd could sing along to together. We wanted to present a song that expanded the film. But an incredibly fitting song came along."
He added, "I want to mention one more easter egg. Michael Giacchino also handled the music for Ratatouille. There is a moment in the film where Ratatouille appears, and Michael personally played instruments for that brief moment," raising expectations.
Zootopia 2 is an exhilarating chase-adventure film in which the best duo from the returning Zootopia, rabbit Judy and fox Nick, pursue the mysterious serpent Gary who shakes the city, diving into a new world and investigating a perilous incident. It is the sequel to the Disney animated film Zootopia, which in 2016 thrilled about 4.71 million viewers domestically. It opens on the 26th.
