Singer Kang Moon-kyung is joining MBN's large-scale audition program 'Mumyeongjeonseol - the hierarchy war among trot men' (hereinafter 'Mumyeongjeonseol') as its new "legend."
On the 17th MBN said Kang Moon-kyung has been selected as the sixth "legend" of 'Mumyeongjeonseol.' Following Namjin, Jo Hang-jo, Joo Hyun-mi, Shin Yu and Son Tae-jin, expectation is growing as Kang Moon-kyung, who rose to prominence through "King of Singers 2," joins as a "legend."
Kang Moon-kyung reportedly expressed anticipation as this is her first time judging an audition in her life through 'Mumyeongjeonseol.' Kang Moon-kyung said, "When I sing, I want to find singers who can move listeners' hearts more than focusing on pitch or technique. People call me a 'bbongshin,' but actually I'm a relentless practice addict. When I practice, I focus on every single syllable of the lyrics and pay attention to pronunciation. I go on stage after practicing perfectly," saying she will concentrate on finding authenticity and potential that come through effort.
As a judge, Kang Moon-kyung left a strong impression on the public as a singer who wrote a life-changing drama after long years of obscurity. Debuting in 2014 and spending long years in obscurity, Kang Moon-kyung participated in SBS's 'Trot God Has Appeared 2 – Last Chance' (hereinafter 'Trot God 2') in 2020, honestly confessing the difficulties coming from the stagnation caused by COVID-19 and earning much sympathy. Proving her skills on 'Trot God 2,' Kang Moon-kyung won the final with the performance "Father's River," and because of her high-level pitch-bending skill she even acquired the nickname "bbongshin."
Later, on 'King of Singers 2,' Kang Moon-kyung's accumulated skill was once again highlighted on stage. In particular, her performance of "Mangmo," which she sang while recalling her late grandmother, moved the hearts of judges including Seol Woon-do and viewers, ranking second in the first round of the semifinals. Even now, 'King of Singers 2's' "Mangmo" is considered one of Kang Moon-kyung's legendary performances, and the video's view count is also on the rise. Recognized for her talent on 'King of Singers 2,' Kang Moon-kyung finished in seventh place, securing a solid fandom and establishing herself as a new legend in the trot world.
'Mumyeongjeonseol,' which announced Kang Moon-kyung's joining, confirmed Namjin, Jo Hang-jo, Joo Hyun-mi, Shin Yu and Son Tae-jin as "legends," raising expectations with an avengers-like trot lineup. 'Mumyeongjeonseol,' which is currently accepting final applicants until Dec. 12, is drawing attention for how it will break away from the existing "famous singer-centered" audition framework.
MBN's large-scale trot audition 'Mumyeongjeonseol,' which will premiere in Feb. 2026, is open to any man who loves trot regardless of age, nationality or experience. Applications close on Dec. 12.
