Actor Jin Seon-gyu hinted at being a "tetonam".
On the 17th at the Pullman Ambassador Seoul East in Gwangjin District, Seoul, the Coupang Play X Genie TV original series Heroes Next Door press conference was held. The event was attended by Yoon Kye-sang, Jin Seon-gyu, Kim Ji-hyun, Ko Gyu-pil, Lee Jeong-ha, and director Cho Woong.
Coupang Play·Genie TV original series "Heroes Next Door" (written by Ban Gi-ri and Kim Sang-yoon, directed by Cho Woong) is the cheerful and thrilling story of a reservist special forces unit that has banded together not to protect the country, nor out of any interest in world peace, but solely for their families and their neighborhood.
First, Yoon Kye-sang plays Choi Kang, an ordinary insurance investigator who, despite being from a special operations unit, is considered someone "who didn't serve in the military." Jin Seon-gyu appears as Gwak Byeong-nam, a former counterterrorism unit member who now runs a hardware store and stationery shop and serves as the head of the Changri-dong youth association. Joining them are Kim Ji-hyun as Jung Nam-yeon, owner of Mammoth Mart; Ko Gyu-pil as Lee Yong-hee, head of the Special Warfare Martial Arts Yongmu Dojang; and Lee Jeong-ha, who transforms into elite engineering student Park Jeong-hwan. Each character, blended into the neighborhood in their own way, pulls out the charisma of their past in moments of crisis and is reborn as a "special forces unit that protects our neighborhood."
That day Jin Seon-gyu said about his character performance, "Rather than the kind feeling I usually have, I tried to show more of a 'tetonam' vibe. To do that I grew a beard where there wasn't one, applied and drew it, and changed the hairstyle. A person who seems like they could be somewhere in the neighborhood. And I tried to make the character someone who would make you feel safe if they were in the neighborhood."
He continued, "While filming this, I realized there are volunteer neighborhood patrol members in our area. Those people have been patrolling while we weren't looking, so I thought we were able to move around more safely. It also made me think I should do better at separating recyclables from now on," he said.
