Singer Kim Gun-mo, who returned after six years, received a warm welcome.
Kim Gun-mo began a nationwide tour concert 'Kim Gun-mo.' starting in Busan on Aug. 27 and is holding concerts in Daegu on Oct. 18 and Daejeon on Dec. 20. The performances will expand from Busan, Daegu and Daejeon to major cities nationwide, including Seoul, in January next year.
Ahead of the concerts, Kim Gun-mo's side said, "Even during the hiatus, Kim Gun-mo's music did not stop, with remakes released by junior singers and reevaluation through new media. Although he was away from the stage, he never let go of music for a single moment."
It has been about six years since Kim Gun-mo met audiences. He halted all broadcasting activities in 2019 after being accused of sexual assault. At the time, lawyer Kang Yong-seok relayed a woman's claim that she was sexually assaulted by Kim Gun-mo on the Garosero Research Institute broadcast. Kim Gun-mo suspended the nationwide tour concert that was in progress and appealed that he was innocent by suing the woman for defamation and false accusation.
In the meantime, Kim Gun-mo registered his marriage to pianist Jang Ji-yeon and tied the knot, but he later endured the pain of divorce. The prosecution issued a nonprosecution disposition in November 2021, and with the woman's appeal and request for a reconsideration both dismissed, the case was closed in 2022, but his comeback did not come easily.
Breaking his silence after six years and holding a nationwide tour to meet audiences, Kim Gun-mo appeared more composed. At the nationwide tour held at Suwon Sports Complex in Gyeonggi Province on the afternoon of the 15th, Kim Gun-mo introduced himself, "After resting well for about five years, I thought, 'Ah, now it's time (to return),' but an advertisement said, 'red ginseng is six years,' so I rested one more year and very pleasantly appeared as Kim Gun-mo."
In particular, Kim Gun-mo said in his closing remarks, "Thanks to your support, I will live without worrying about comments." Through subtitles in a video, he also showed strong determination, saying, "Were those moments white blanks or deep darkness as I lived and sometimes stopped? Anyway, we can just go again," and, "What I'm filming this time will be a 'period,' not a 'comma.'"
Meanwhile, Kim Gun-mo continues his nationwide tour performances to Daejeon, Incheon and other cities.
