'Meat gangster' David Lee confessed to experiencing racial discrimination in the United States.
On the 16th broadcast of KBS2's 'The Boss's Ears Are Donkey Ears', David Lee's daily life was depicted.
After newly joining as boss, Jun Hyun-moo even visited the restaurant, drawing a hot response, and David Lee, who lives with four children born to his Ecuadorian American wife, showed his 'crispy outside, tender inside' boss side with affectionate skinship. Seeing his family off as he went to work, David Lee checked the prep lists of staff, the most basic task during opening preparation, and pointed out that roles and order had not been set. Watching David Lee's anger video, Jung Ji-seon laughed as a typical example of double standards, asking, "Why is he so angry?" Meanwhile, Yunho U-Know empathized with David Lee, saying, "In that situation there would be things to say," showing a 'passionate boss' side.
While dining with staff, David Lee spoke about the hardships of living in the United States. He said, "There were many hard things. The differences in culture are large, and when I think about the racial discrimination now I can only laugh. At the time the wounds were deep. When I went to the kitchen as a sous chef, I experienced being ostracized. Because our races were different and we didn't spend time together, they didn't give me work. I was so wronged that I left crying alone," and added, "After that I got a job at a two-star restaurant, but there was a lot of unseen envy and jealousy. So I gritted my teeth and endured, and then the friends who had bullied me came up and we had a drink. When I asked why their attitude changed, they said, 'You came to work, not to make friends,' and 'Because we saw your sincerity.'"
In particular, David Lee added, "There were more than 20 to 30 task items and I simply couldn't finish them in time. So although my scheduled start time was 1 p.m., I went to work at 6:30 a.m. I finished my work leisurely by myself, and when friends came out in the afternoon I had already completed my tasks, so I received roles from the sous chef while being trained and was able to grow."
