Group WJSN member Dayoung showed a clear presence as a solo artist through her award.
Dayoung won the Best Solo Artist (Female) award at the 2025 Korea Grand Music Awards (2025 KGMA) held at Incheon Inspire Arena on the 15th. With her solo debut song released last September, "body(바디)", she captivated not only fans but the public, and as she continues to pioneer her own music day after day, the award made its meaning even greater.
Through her agency Starship Entertainment, Dayoung said, "It feels like a dream to meet a song like 'body' that is like a gift, to stand on such a big awards stage and receive an award. While preparing for my solo debut for a long time, I had many doubts and worries, asking myself, 'Am I doing well?' Receiving the Best Solo Artist (Female) award makes me feel certain about the time I spent, and I'm overwhelmed and deeply moved."
"Through this solo activity I realized again that I truly love the stage, and I want to make sure to say thank you to everyone who recognized my sincerity and supported me, including WOOZOOng (official fan club name). I will work hard to repay that by showing more diverse music and stages in the future," she said.
Along with the award that day, Dayoung's performance of "body" was presented. Dayoung appeared from under the stage to the more grandly arranged "body," walked out energetically with dancers amid cheers from many fans at the scene, creating an emotional moment. She added vividness to the stage with solid live vocals and delivered Dayoung's own healthy energy to the audience by presenting direction reminiscent of a musical with more varied dance break performances.
Dayoung made her solo debut last September with her first digital single "gonna love me, right?(고나 럽 미, 롸잇?)" She not only took first place on music shows with the title track "body," but also reached as high as No. 9 on Melon TOP100, entered the weekly top 20 in the second week of October, and rose to the top ranks of music charts on TikTok and YouTube, suggesting she had captured the public's heart.
After the song's release, Dayoung actively communicated by releasing challenge videos every day with various K-pop artists, actors, dancers and creators, and the "body" challenge sparked global success both domestically and abroad.
With this album, Dayoung achieved a successful solo debut, drawing attention from the U.S. business magazine Forbes, the U.K. music magazine NME, U.S. broadcaster FOX 13 Seattle and various countries' MTV channels. Meanwhile, by winning the Best Solo Artist (Female) award at the 2025 KGMA, she cemented her presence as a solo artist.
Meanwhile, Dayoung is actively promoting not only "body" but also continuing various content such as challenges with the album track "number one rockstar(넘버 원 락스타)."
