Five short films completed by emerging creators from film production sites made their premiere. Korea Producers Guild (PGK, president Lee Dong-ha) held the "2025 content creative talent accompaniment project commercialization support short film screening" at Indiespace on Nov. 12 (Tue).This screening was hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) and organized by PGK to announce the commercialization support results of the "content creative talent accompaniment project," and five short films selected through a competition among creators who completed the mentoring process were screened. This year, out of 21 submissions in total, Yun Mun-seong's "Broccoli," Lee Hyo-rim's "Origin of Species," Jo Hee-su's "Unknown Identity," Pyo Guk-cheong's "LUMP," and Kim Yun-su's "Freshwater Fish Heart" were finally selected and completed after about six months of production. In particular, Jo Hee-su's Unknown Identity, marking actress Lee Na-young's return to the screen after seven years, drew attention.
This commercialization support was carried out with PGK deputy president An Eun-mi acting as project lead and producer Kim Tae-hoon acting as production lead. Deputy President An said, "I was impressed by the energy of the directors who produced high-quality works in a short period," and added, "Based on this year's experience, we will establish a more practical and sustainable support structure next year." Producer Kim said, "We set it up so that creators and experts communicate directly from script development through postproduction," and added, "I hope this accumulates production experience that can be felt on set."
The directors all said, "Practical support that extends to the film set was the greatest help." They evaluated that the on-site support infused with the production know-how of PGK-affiliated producers closely connected the entire planning, production and postproduction processes, which led to the works' completion.
The five works revealed this time are films that depict characters and worlds from each filmmaker's perspective. Director Yun Mun-seong, who presented his first directorial work Broccoli, said, "Through the character of a bus driver, I wanted to realistically portray the emotional outburst experienced by middle age." Director Lee Hyo-rim of Origin of Species said, "Even amid unexpected variables, I tried not to let go of the characters' tension and emotions until the end." Director Jo Hee-su, who directed Unknown Identity, said, "The work started from a personal question about the issues of boundaries and identity," and explained, "I explored the film's direction and the character's emotional line together with actress Lee Na-young during filming; she is an actor whose boyish purity and transparency shine." Director Pyo Guk-cheong of LUMP said, "The atmosphere on set that the actors and staff created in unison ultimately completed the film's mood," and director Kim Yun-su, who made Freshwater Fish Heart, added, "I wanted to place family and poetry in the same world and delicately express the temperature of their relationships."
Since its founding in 2006, PGK has run various projects to strengthen producers' rights and build an industry foundation together with about 280 regular member producers. It has participated as a platform organization for the "content creative talent accompaniment project" for six years and continues to provide practical support for nurturing creators, including policy proposals, running competitions, mentoring, planning and development education, pitching and business matching.
