'Dynamite Kiss' Jang Ki-yong and Ahn Eun-jin fell in love with a cataclysmic kiss.
On the 12th SBS's new Wed-Thu drama 'Dynamite Kiss' (written by Ha Yoon-ah, Tae Kyung-min / directed by Kim Jae-hyun, Kim Hyun-woo / produced by Studio S, Samhwa Networks) premiered. 'Dynamite Kiss' is a dopamine-exploding romance that begins with a kiss between 2025's hottest two actors Jang Ki-yong (playing Gong Ji-hyeok) and Ahn Eun-jin (playing Go Da-rim), and it drew expectations even before broadcast.
'Dynamite Kiss' episode 1 recorded a Nielsen Korea metropolitan rating of 4.9% and nationwide 4.5%, marking a strong start. The momentary peak rating was 6.3%. Above all, since Jang Ki-yong and Ahn Eun-jin's romantic chemistry truly kicked off from the latter half of episode 1, ratings are expected to trend upward.
'Dynamite Kiss' protagonists Gong Ji-hyeok and Go Da-rim were living polar opposite lives. Job-seeker Go Da-rim was enduring each day just to get by. When her only younger sister, embarrassed by her job-seeking sister, gave her a Jeju travel voucher and told her not to come to her wedding, Go Da-rim put on a brave smile. On the other hand, Gong Ji-hyeok was a capable man who successfully pulled off huge projects, but he did not believe in love.
The two ended up in Jeju for different reasons. Gong Ji-hyeok went to scout Kim Jeong-gwon (played by Park Yong-woo), and Go Da-rim went to avoid her sister's wedding. But Kim Jeong-gwon turned out to be Go Da-rim's ex-boyfriend who once dumped her saying she was like "boiled spinach." During the trip, Go Da-rim ran into a friend and, seeing that friend's partner was Kim Jeong-gwon, lied out of pride that she too had come with her boyfriend, then drank alone in bitterness.
Later, Go Da-rim misunderstood that Gong Ji-hyeok, standing alone on a cliff, was about to jump and threw her arms around him from behind. Startled, Gong Ji-hyeok tried to steady the swaying Go Da-rim and they fell together. Gong Ji-hyeok then left Go Da-rim, who had fallen asleep, at the hospital and went away. Waking up late, Go Da-rim ended up penniless after paying Gong Ji-hyeok's medical bills.
The next morning Gong Ji-hyeok and Go Da-rim met in the hotel restaurant. Go Da-rim's friend couple also appeared. They were all staying at the same hotel. Once again, out of pride, Go Da-rim linked arms with Gong Ji-hyeok and lied, saying "my boyfriend." Needing to recruit Kim Jeong-gwon, Gong Ji-hyeok saw the situation as an opportunity and asked Go Da-rim to pretend to be his 'fake lover.' He quickly transformed Go Da-rim into a Cinderella and even put a ring on her finger.
Kim Jeong-gwon was surprised to see the unrecognizably changed Go Da-rim. He doubted that Go Da-rim would be dating a man as handsome as Gong Ji-hyeok. Worried that their fake lover act might be exposed, Go Da-rim, to deceive the approaching Kim Jeong-gwon, kissed Gong Ji-hyeok. It was an unavoidable choice, but that kiss was a "cataclysm" for both of them. Especially for Gong Ji-hyeok, who did not believe in love, it was a shock like dynamite.
Gong Ji-hyeok grabbed the act-as-if-unbothered Go Da-rim and said, "Still, it's better than being found out," and then, "Shall we do it once more? Let's do that just now one more time!" He then approached her without hesitation and gave a powerful kiss. With Gong Ji-hyeok's fluttering narration, "That night we were nitric acid and sulfuric acid, and our kiss was dynamite," the first episode of 'Dynamite Kiss' ended.
The first episode of 'Dynamite Kiss' captured Gong Ji-hyeok and Go Da-rim's tangled first meeting and the process by which the two fall in love with a "cataclysmic" kiss with a snappy story and rhythmic direction. Jang Ki-yong and Ahn Eun-jin's performances and chemistry, which brought out 120% of the bright, lovable Go Da-rim character's charm, also sparkled. The surprise cameos by Lee Seo-jin and Kim Kwang-kyu, who delivered a bomb of laughs, were also impressive.
Episode 2 airs on the 13th at 9 p.m.
