Hollywood actor Gwyneth Paltrow lamented that she is experiencing an anxiety disorder for the first time due to hormonal changes.
Gwyneth Paltrow recently confessed on the podcast "The Goop" that she is experiencing an anxiety disorder for the first time in her life. Her stance on this mental health issue was that it is "a symptom of hormonal changes."
Gwyneth Paltrow said, "I feel a lot of anxiety for the first time in my life. This is just a symptom of hormonal changes," and explained, "It seems to be an estrogen dominance issue. This condition really makes people anxious."
She added, "There are physical aspects, psychological and emotional aspects, and life in the public eye also has an effect."
Paltrow, the daughter of actress Blythe Danner and Bruce Paltrow, who has lived in the spotlight since childhood, said, "I have lived a very intense life under the public eye for a long time," and confessed, "I am often swayed by other people's opinions and the energy those opinions carry. Like most people, I am very sensitive, and those things seem to wear down my nervous system."
Now 53, Paltrow said her mental anxiety is also manifesting as physical symptoms. She said, "It has really come over me strongly in the past few years. I know something is wrong. My stress hormone levels are high. Even when I lie in bed completely exhausted, my heart suddenly starts racing."
She continued, "My sleep is still so-so, but the moment I open my eyes in the morning I can be filled with anxiety. But that's not my personality. So there are many factors, but clearly the nervous system is a big part," and confessed that a single bad work-related email feels like being slapped in the face.
She is currently seeing two therapists, one of whom is a nervous system specialist. Paltrow said, "I get a lot of healing from family, my children, and my husband. Especially when the four children and my husband are under the same roof, my nervous system calms down."
On stress management she said, "I try to use my time more consciously," adding, "I think I have an ADD (attention deficit disorder) temperament. So I get pulled in many directions easily. I want to reduce that now and spend my days more steadily."
Paltrow has one son and one daughter with her ex-husband Chris Martin, and in 2018 she remarried producer Brad Falchuk.
