Kang Seung-yoon, leader of the group Winner and a singer-songwriter, showcased a deeper musical world with his second full-length album [PAGE 2], embodying the essence of a "growth-oriented artist".
The Kang Seung-yoon who was like an uncut gem of emotion at debut is now writing the next "page" of his life with a fully refined personal narrative and sound.
If the first full-length album [PAGE], released in 2021, was a diary-like work that captured the "records of youth," then [PAGE 2], released 4 years and 7 months later, is closer to the next chapter of that diary — the story of a person viewing the world with a deeper and broader perspective.
In his previous work, Kang Seung-yoon reflected on the past 10 years through relationships with the people who made him, including family, fans, Winner members, and mentor Yoon Jong-shin. In contrast, the perspective in [PAGE 2] has expanded.
He takes a step beyond inner stories to sing about life, youth, and the intrinsic "beauty (美)" of humans. The title track "ME (美)" is an intense dance song blending synth-pop and rock sounds, conveying the message to "shake up and enjoy moments of youth." Solid vocals and relaxed tempo control reflect the matured confidence of Kang Seung-yoon, and the lyric "美 and shake that beauty" encapsulates the free and confident attitude of youth he sought to express.
Also, [PAGE 2] is not merely a list of emotions but shows the "structuring" of emotions. Love, breakup, regret, agony, freedom — weaving all emotions into a single narrative, Kang Seung-yoon completed his own musical language. The composition that crosses various genres and the detailed sound design prove he has grown beyond a simple vocalist into a highly accomplished producer.
He added new colors to his sensibility through collaborations with fellow artists such as Seulgi, Eun Ji-won, and Ho-ryun. If [PAGE] was "my story," [PAGE 2] draws universal empathy with a deeper "my story."
Kang Seung-yoon's musical changes are also evident in visuals and messaging. As "solo artist Kang Seung-yoon," he directed and orchestrated his musical world himself. With all songs written and composed by him, and with promotion and visual concepts planned personally, this album shows he has established himself not merely as someone who sings but as someone who "creates" music.
The boy who appeared carrying a guitar on Mnet's "Superstar K2" in 2010 has become an artist who sings about the world in his own language at the center of K-pop. If [PAGE] was his starting line, [PAGE 2] is both the finish line and another beginning.
Kang Seung-yoon is still "in progress." With a more mature perspective, his music, which is still writing new pages, is drawing growing anticipation for how it will evolve.
