'The Great Guide 2.5 — The Very Difficult Guide' Kim Dae-ho, Choi Daniel, and Jeon So-min enjoyed a trip full of laughter and emotion in Harbin.
The third episode of MBC Every1's 'The Great Guide 2.5 — The Very Difficult Guide,' which aired on Nov. 11, unfolded the story of the second day of the Harbin trip. From the shocking visuals of the "princess trio" to the poignant visit to the Ahn Jung-geun memorial hall, a travelogue that alternated between laughter and emotion captivated viewers. With new member Hyojung joining, the high-energy "Baekdungi" journey officially began.
The episode began with the 'princess transformation' scene previewed last week. Jeon So-min, Choi Daniel, and Kim Dae-ho each appeared in front of St. Sophia Cathedral in Harbin wearing extravagant dresses. Kim Dae-ho's princess costume, which piqued everyone's curiosity, drew reactions such as "I'm scared it might appear in my dreams" and "what is that beast?" In particular, Park Myung-soo in the studio asked, "Did you keep your schedule free to do that?", drawing laughter. Still, the three, overcoming their embarrassment because they were together, finished their first night in Harbin happily by taking memorable photos in front of St. Sophia Cathedral.
Afterwards, the three looked for the street skewers in Harbin. A 10-liter "king beer" that appeared with the skewers surprised everyone. Everyone doubted their eyes at the continent-scale that exceeded imagination. In fact, the price was about 20,000 won in Korean money, roughly 1,000 won per regular bottle of beer. Watching this, Park Myung-soo couldn't hide his envy, saying, "I should have gone."
The next morning, the three decided to spend free time separately. First, Choi Daniel had an unexpected battle with Harbin's 'teteonam' at a riverside park. Faced with the locals' energy, including horizontal bar routines, nunchaku, and dance, he couldn't help but exclaim, "So this is the continent."
Kim Dae-ho enjoyed the sauna at a five-star resort. The hot pot using real ingredients was shocking from the visuals alone. Kim Dae-ho entered the hot pot like an ingredient and ate actual ingredients such as orange and chili, astonishing everyone. He also formed an unforgettable friendship with a local sauna mate he met there, which provoked jealousy in Choi Daniel, who is on the opposite side of the 'Elhomans.'
Jeon So-min, who says "travel is food," headed to the Harbin market to enjoy a full mukbang. Her exploration of Harbin street foods such as Chinese magnolia berry, egg bread, grilled naengmyeon, and dumplings made viewers' mouths water.
Reunited, the three visited the Ahn Jung-geun memorial hall at Harbin Station. They visited the scene of the 1909 Harbin assassination with solemn hearts and viewed the exhibits. 'The Great Guide' Kim Dae-ho vividly recounted Ahn Jung-geun's plan through to his execution, presenting his life story. Looking at Harbin Station, where the spots where Ahn Jung-geun and Ito Hirobumi actually stood are marked, the three felt as if they had stepped into a page of history. Even the otherwise childish Choi Daniel and Jeon So-min were moved here and felt lingering emotion.
In particular, the remark "the remains have not yet returned to their homeland" moved them deeply. Kim Dae-ho explained the reason for choosing the site as a travel destination, saying, "I hope many people see this trip and go at least once," and Park Myung-soo left a heartfelt impression, saying, "I'll make sure to go even if I have to deliberately."
Afterwards, the three headed to the 100-year-old house street and strolled through Harbin's bustling area of the 1920s–60s, feeling the charm of traditional Chinese houses. There, Kim Dae-ho, Choi Daniel, and Jeon So-min shared drinks and formed a "pledge of brotherhood." They experienced a ritual where breaking a glass is said to make a wish come true, and they also tried a traditional Harbin hot pot dish, "tieguotun," enjoying everything Harbin had to offer.
At Harbin high-speed rail station, where they arrived to go to their next destination, Yanji, Hyojung, who was joining a day late, appeared. At last the 'Baekdungi' heading to Mount Baekdu was complete. Meanwhile, the sisterly chemistry between Jeon So-min and Hyojung drew attention. While sharing girl talk and sympathy, Jeon So-min surprised everyone with the confession, "Choi Daniel, do you really like me? I have someone I like."
Hyojung's energy did not wane even on the train. With energy reminiscent of elementary school field trips, she continued endless conversations and games. Kim Dae-ho complained, "I can't even sleep while traveling, it's so hard." However, thanks to Hyojung's energy, they laughed and chatted for four hours and were able to arrive in Yanji.
Meanwhile, at the end of the broadcast, the preview showed the Baekdungi shocked in Yanji — a city where no matter what you imagine, you experience more — piquing viewers' curiosity.
