Broadcaster-turned-announcer Bae Ji-hyun, the wife of baseball player Ryu Hyun-jin, candidly shared her thoughts on the job of being a "major leaguer's wife."
On the 10th, a video titled "Super teto-nye fall drive in Namyangju with my mother" was uploaded to Bae Ji-hyun's YouTube channel.
In this content, Bae Ji-hyun went on a drive to Namyangju with her mother and had a frank conversation. That day, the production team asked Bae Ji-hyun's mother, "When your daughter, who was an announcer, quit her job to focus on supporting her husband full time, weren't you disappointed?"
Bae Ji-hyun's mother replied, "Not at all. There could have been regrets, but she met such a wonderful son-in-law, so I never felt that way."
Bae Ji-hyun said, "The strange thing is, I think I treated quitting my job and supporting Hyun-jin as simply my job. Then after having a child, I began to feel that compared with my friends. Raising a child was hard, so those thoughts came up, and right after marriage I was fully immersed in the bigger world of baseball that I used to be part of, so it was very enjoyable."
Bae Ji-hyun's mother added, "And you have to think of it as a job," and Bae Ji-hyun said, "But major leaguer wives consider being the player's wife a job. They have a professional mindset."
Bae Ji-hyun said, "Their duty is to develop the players' baseball community, and every day the stadium is a place they have to go to work; that mindset is strong. Before having a child I was solely focused on Hyun-jin. It became, 'Is there any discomfort, will it be a burden?' and then gradually shifted to being all about the child. Priorities, after all..." which drew attention.
Bae Ji-hyun's mother also added about her son-in-law Ryu Hyun-jin, "I don't boast. We've lived where we do for over ten years, but I don't talk about him. I worry that each of my actions could reflect poorly on my son-in-law, so I have never talked about him to people around me."
