Kim Won-hoon, 40 minutes late sparks 'character controversy'? "He lacked X things since his unknown days"… the scene that caused bursts of laughter
Review: This review was written after watching the broadcast.
Comedian Kim Won-hoon once again became the subject of a 'character controversy(?)'. Of course, this time too it was not real but a variety-show–style, explosive 'self dis' skit.
On the 10th, YouTube Zzanbro (Shin Dong-yup channel) EP.118 posted an episode titled "Workplace insubordination MAX Kim Won-hoon·Car, the Garden·Baek Hyun-jin."
The video that day featured Kim Won-hoon, Car, the Garden and Baek Hyun-jin, who are active as SNL crew members.
But from the start, the set was unsettled as Kim Won-hoon arrived more than 30 minutes late. Car, the Garden and Baek Hyun-jin, who had arrived earlier, joked, "He's got star syndrome these days," "He changed after shooting a commercial," and Shin Dong-yup laughed, "He's going to be 10 minutes later," triggering laughter.
Eventually Baek Hyun-jin kept joking, "He doesn't have to come, tell him to go," and Shin Dong-yup cheerfully wrapped up the moment, saying, "It's not star syndrome, the illness is deep."
When Kim Won-hoon arrived late, he repeatedly bowed, saying, "I'm sorry. I'm not that kind of person," but Shin Dong-yup lightened the mood, saying, "Since I'm his direct senior, I'll apologize on his behalf." Then Baek Hyun-jin took it further and drew laughs, asking, "Do stars have separate roads? Is it that blocked?" In response, Kim Won-hoon, embarrassed, said, "Stop it, talking won't fix it," and confessed, "Actually I was late because I filmed some content." Shin Dong-yup wittily replied, "If you were making money, that's fine," adding, "Then you get my approval."
In the main shoot that followed, Kim Won-hoon's 'star syndrome concept' continued. During Car, the Garden's birthday party, when he tried to lead the atmosphere and was teased, "You're the type who gets anxious if you don't get the spotlight," Shin Dong-yup exposed, "Right, he lacked manners since his unknown days," and Kim Won-hoon self-deprecatingly brought down the house, saying, "He got worse, got ruder."
Shin Dong-yup admired, "That's why Won-hoon is a variety genius. He uses everything as his weapon," and Baek Hyun-jin added to the laughter, "He's serious and perfect in skits, but in reality he's this funny."
Ultimately, the '40-minute tardiness' that began as a controversy over Kim Won-hoon's character became "a meme sublimated by variety sense." Netizens also responded positively with comments such as, "A genius who turns even being rude into entertainment," "A man who turns even being late into laughter," and "The comedy successor Shin Dong-yup acknowledged."
Meanwhile, Kim Won-hoon has recently been emerging as the 'next-generation variety trend' as he moves between YouTube, SNL and variety shows.
