HYBE and Geffen Records' global girl group KATSEYE topped Spotify as the world's most-listened-to girl group by monthly listeners, proving its unparalleled global popularity.
According to the latest tally (Oct. 13–Nov. 9), KATSEYE recorded 33,401,675 Spotify monthly listeners. This figure surpasses the records of major global K-pop artists during the same period, giving the girl group the largest listener base.
The only group surpassing KATSEYE's streaming numbers is Netflix's fictional K-pop girl group HUNTR/X from the film KPOP Demon Hunters.
KATSEYE's signature song "Gabriela" reached 418,432,68 cumulative Spotify streams as of the 9th (local time), maintaining its explosive streaming rise. It is an achievement about 143 days after its release on June 20, placing it among the top girl group songs released this year.
This means KATSEYE now has two songs with over 400 million streams on Spotify. Before "Gabriela," "Touch" surpassed 500 million streams on Oct. 28, and "Gnarly," released in April, has exceeded 320 million streams and is rapidly rising. Debut song "Debut" and "BEAUTIFUL CHAOS"'s title track "Gameboy" have each been played more than 190 million and 120 million times, respectively, heading toward the 200 million mark.
The speed at which each released song accumulates streams is increasing. "Touch," released in July last year, reached 100 million streams in 80 days, and "Gnarly," released in April this year, achieved the same milestone in 52 days. "Gabriela" surpassed 100 million streams in just 38 days. The time to reach 400 million also shortened: "Touch" took 380 days, while "Gabriela" cut that record by 237 days. Each new release shows the listener base expanding rapidly.
KATSEYE's rise was confirmed again when the Recording Academy released the nominees for the 68th Grammy Awards on Nov. 8 (Korea time), with KATSEYE nominated for best new artist and best pop duo/group performance.
HYBE chairman Bang Si-hyuk's "K-pop methodology" was applied to the global girl group KATSEYE, which will embark on its first solo North American tour starting in November with 16 performances in 13 cities—Minneapolis, Toronto, Boston, New York, Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Sugar Land, Irving, Phoenix, San Francisco, Seattle, Los Angeles and Mexico City. Next April, they will also perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
